There’s a very cute new surfer style dining spot in Bree St called Latitude 33.
When I walked in it immediately took me back to days in Jeffreys Bay when I was a teenager. JBay was the place to be in the Eastern Cape (and way way cooler than PE, which is where I grew up – then again most places are way way cooler than PE, even today 😉 )
Anyways, before I totally digress on that topic… Latitude 33’s decor is light & fun. The bar is a big talking point because it looks like a huge wave made out of wood. Loved it. Then if you don’t feel like sitting at a table, you can also chill on one of their big leather couches and watch some surf action on the flat screen. Very relaxed atmosphere indeed.
Everybody is also super friendly. Another thing that reminded me of my old Eastern Cape days. Us Eastern Capers are known to be really friendly just so you know. Some might say it’s because we have to, otherwise people won’t be our friends (with our dodgy backgrounds and all), hehe, but I say it’s just the EC way.
This venue also happens to be a total multitasking queen. If you pop upstairs you can do a bit of clothing shopping (they stock some cool Aussie brands – perfect for days on the beach) or you can do some art appreciation as they also have a small exhibition space there as well.
Bjorn and I had just stopped in for a very quick bite. So he had their grilled chicken wrap (R40) with caramelised onions, avo, tomato & cottage cheese and I had the crumbed chicken strips (R35) which comes with a plum dipping sauce:
They also have a good selection of salads (R60 – R65), pizzas (R65 – R95) burgers (R65), open sandwiches (R20 – R25) and deluxe sandwiches (R45 – R65). And their breakfast menu looked really great as well. With omelette’s starting at only R20, a health brekkie (R35), a flapjack stack (R45) and a breakfast bunny chow (R50), there’s a little summin’ for everyone.
I really loved this spot. Mostly because the feel is so different from your usual Cape Town spots… By the time we had settled in at our table, digging into our food, the place was buzzing. So clearly it’s very quickly also become a local favourite.
My Miss K Kiss-o-Meter ratings for Lattitude 33 are as follows:
