IMG_3569This past Monday was not only an absolutely beautiful day here in the Mother City, it was also the day bestie Leigh & I had one of the most relaxing, amazing afternoons both of us have had in quite some time.

That’s because we spent our afternoon chilling on the stoep at Constantia Glen, overlooking the vineyards and filling our lungs with farm fresh air, while enjoying some beautiful wines and stuffing ourselves with the some of the yummiest cheeses and meats I’ve ever tasted.  In one word it was: heaven…

But let me give you a quick photo tour:

DSC03707DSC03712 DSC03715 DSC03717I fell head-over-heels in love with the Constantia Glen guard dog, Frankie.  Yes, he does look a little depressed… maybe being constantly surrounded by all that awesomeness is just too overwhelming for the poor little guy… but don’t you just wanna cuddle him?

Such a gorgeous “fuller figure” boy…

Now a wine tasting session at Constantia Glen only costs R40* per person and includes 6 wines – 3 from their Constantia Saddle range and 3 from their Constantia Glen range.

*The fee is waived if you purchase wine of R100 or more.

We kicked things off with the Constantia Glen 2012 Sauvignon Blanc (R100), then the  Constantia Saddle White (R60), followed by the slightly sweet, berry infused Constantia Saddle Rose (R60).  I enjoyed all three and could picture myself slowly sipping away on any one of them on a hot summer’s day.

We then moved onto the reds, starting with the Constantia Saddle Red (R85), then the Constantia Glen 2010 Three (R165) and the Constantia Glen 2008 Five (R245).  My favourite was that last one which is a smooth, spicy blend of 5 Bordeaux varieties.  It’s also their flagship wine with quite a few awards under its belt.  It’s the type of wine I picture whipping out on special occasions… or hell, even a big night in while watching movies & relaxing on the couch.  Hmmmmmm.

There they all are…

Paired with your wine tasting, you can also get yourself a meat & cheese platter.  They have the following 4 options:

DSC03724We tried the cheese & charcuterie platter (R100) which has a good mix of everything, served with a warm, freshly baked baguette, gherkins & capers, the tastiest homemade jam and Rooibos smoked butter… I know what you’re thinking… say what?? Rooibos smoked butter??  Yes.  And it was a-ma-zing.

This platter made the soooooo happy, I wanted to dance in the vineyards like a scene out of The Sound of Music…

This really was the perfect way to spend an afternoon.  We felt like we had been transported to a different world, when in fact we were only about a 20min drive away from the CBD.  All Leigh and I have been able to talk about since is how we really need to go back.  And soon.
