Situated in the heart of the Little Karoo about a 3 hour drive from Cape Town, this private game reserve boasts 58,000 hectares, Cape Fold Mountains, Karoo plains, San rock art, indigenous flora & fauna and the big 5.
With so much wide-open space, you’re getting a completely authentic wildlife experience. There’s no animal interactions, cages, feedings, or anything like that. It’s all kept as real as possible, with the animals roaming free and hunting for their own food. Yes this does mean that you may not see all of the big 5 up close at all times, but with 2 game drives per day (one morning, one evening), you still have plenty of opportunity for some great sightings.
Sanbona has a couple of accommodation options: Dwyka Tented Lodge – for the ultimate glam camping experience, Tilney Manor – for a bit of romance, the Explorer Camp – for those who want to get down with nature, and then the Gondwana Famiy Lodge which (as the name suggest) is more family-friendly.
We stayed in Gondwana, and just because it’s family-friendly, doesn’t mean it’s less luxurious in any way… Just look at our little private deck:
I’m going to share a few more pics with you below… But as for the full review – I encourage you to also check out Dax’s blog post (will share the direct link below too)…
