This one is for all the fashion lovers out there (both the men & the ladies)… If you haven’t heard the news already, South Africa will be getting its first H&M store in October of this year. Where? Our beautiful V&A Waterfront of course. (Johannesburg will follow after… because they’re less cool)
The store will be a flagship masterpiece boasting two floors of must-have items spread across approx 4700 square meters of retail space, which I hear will also include a Home section (happy dance).
To me this will make for a pretty solid “shop till you drop” challenge… Who’s with me?
I’ve been waiting for SA to get an H&M store for years and years now. My obsession started way back in 2005 when I embarked on my first overseas trip. The destination: New York. The H&M stores I encountered there: Absolutely blew my mind. I just couldn’t believe that good quality, affordable fashion like this even existed. Since then it has become my mission to shop at every H&M store in every city I’ve been lucky enough to visit. But now, I won’t have to wait until I’m overseas again, and this pleases me immensely… <insert Dr Evil grin here>
Last week I joined a group of media folk at a temporary studio inside the Hamilton House building in De Waterkant to get a sneak peek at the H&M A/W 2015 collection – a preview which was coordinated by The Little Black Book.
Now I know what you’re thinking… Why A/W when the store will be opening in October and by then we’d want to be shopping for our S/S wardrobes, right? Correct yes. So let me explain. When the store opens we will most certainly be seeing spring / summer trends (these just haven’t launched yet), but in addition to this we will also be getting certain premium, special collections (of which the current ones are autumn / winter) which are only released a few times a year.
This way we’ll be in line with international releases along with seasonal changes, which I think will be really nice.
On the day we got a look at the current women’s & men’s special collections which will make an appearance in October along with their spring / summer stock:
Spotted anything you love? I’m sure you did…Now I know it’s still a long wait until October. But I have a very strong feeling it’s going to be worth the wait. For now, you can at least start browsing online over here: www.hm.com/sa (be warned – say goodbye to your productivity for the rest of the day)
Also, plan ahead & start putting aside money now…
