I’ve been hearing about Sticky Fingers BBQ in Obz since Lefty’s opened in Harrington Street and I proclaimed them to serve the best damn ribs in town…
The general feeling was that I had to try Sticky Fingers before I could make that judgement. I personally didn’t see how anything could possibly be better than my beloved Lefty’s and so I didn’t make a real effort to investigate it at the time.
Since then the Lefty’s rib offering has taken a bit of a dip. Still the same amazingly delicous basting, but not quite the same quality & bang-for-your-buck pricing. I guess that’s just life really. It’s hard to keep up the standard when you started off with such a big bang. Anyways, a recent Afrikaburn shopping mission drew me to Trenchtown in Obz which is situated right next door to Sticky Fingers. “Will the rib battle finally be settled?” I thought. So in we went.
It’s definitely not a fancy spot – in fact, one member of our group was a bit put off by the look of the front section and didn’t want to sit down, but then we popped our heads around the back and it was actually quite cosy.
The menu covers some snacky things like chili poppers and cheese fries, then some salads, sandwiches, burgers, chicken wings & off course their sticky BBQ pork ribs:
On Tuesdays they have a Rib Special where you get a Full Rack of Ribs for R85 (no side) instead of R125. Then for R10 extra you can also add a side which is either onion rings, fries, sweet potato fries, or salad (the way less fun option of course).
For other specials, hop on over here.
We happened to be there on a Tuesday – so it was the rib special all round:
Those onion rings are a de-li-cious evil treat. If you’re more of a chips person, get an extra portion of those babies for the table to share. Trust me.Now let’s talk about the ribs. The basting certainly is very good & the meaty bits very tender and tasty. The only downside was that my portion had quite a bit of gristle/loose bits of cartilage, which was a bit off-putting.
Did they meet up to the standards of my beloved Lefty’s back in their “heyday” – not quite. Were they still tasty in their own right? Yeah.
I’m going to give the Sticky Fingers ribs a score of on my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale. I suspect they may have possibly scored a 5 out of 5 back in the day based on the reviews I heard, but perhaps over time they’ve also struggled to keep things at that level.
If you’re a rib lover – I’d say give them a bash if you haven’t yet done so already. If you have and you know of a better spot, do leave a comment below and share the love.
To pay them a visit, take note of the following details:
