I love pizza more than I love life… 😉 Not surprising then that I’m always on the lookout for a hot new pizza spot to indulge in all my carb fest fantasies…
A few week’s ago I discovered a new gem. It’s called The Base and it’s the newest offering at the The President Hotel in Bantry Bay.
Think woodfired, thin crust, craft pizzas, served next to the pool on a beautiful summer’s day, while sipping on an ice cold beer…
You really don’t get better than that.
At their launch we got to sample a selection of pizzas from The base menu alongside some of the craft beers that will also be available on their new menu.
Pizza toppings include slow-roasted chicken with porcini mushrooms, hot peppered smoked salmon with deep fried capers & crème fraiche, pulled pork with a blush peach compote and more…
Now this is the textbook definition of summer vibes…

I don’t normally do chicken on a pizza because I think it’s gross… but this slow-roasted chicken with porcini mushrooms, mozzarella & peppadew was absolutely delicious… will definitely order this again (just don’t tell anyone)
For those who like their pizza toppings to be a bit more simple – the President margarita with buffalo mozzarella, basil & sun blush tomatoes… also really good
Artichoke, wild mushrooms, sun blush tomatoes & olives… another big hit
This one I wasn’t expecting to like either, but it’s a lovely, fresh summer pizza… Pulled pork, blush peach compote, sesame and slaw #yum
Prosciutto, gorgonzola, rocket & fig… also an unusual pizza combo, but very tasty…
Overall though, the pizzas I did try were really delicious. I liked the crispy thin crust and the interesting toppings and I’ll definitely be back when the carb attack hits again. Particularly if I need some poolside vibes in my life.

on my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale. Price wise you’re looking at between R98 and R135 for a full-sized pizza & to make a reservation you can call them on 021 434 8111 or email them at thebase@presidenthotel.co.za.
They’re also planning on joining UberEats & OrderIn from early 2018 (so do keep an eye out), but until then, if you’re in the area, you can always place a takeaway order for collection.
