Get into the festive spirit with the Moët & Chandon Tree Lighting Ceremony this coming Thursday eve

by Karisa

I dunno about you guys, but I’ve been working like a dog and haven’t really had the time to sit back and let it sink in that the festive season is upon us. (like where the hell did this year go!?!?)

I desperately need something to get me into that festive season spirit, otherwise I’m going to end up being the Grinch. 😉

Luckily the team at Moët & Chandon is planning something quite special this coming Thursday evening:

The lighting of the grandest Champagne Chrismtas Tree your eyes will ever see!

Get this – the tree, created by Studio.H, is an impressive 10 meters tall, made entirely from over 1,500 recycled Moët & Chandon champagne bottles, decorated with more than 15,300 LED lights, and also… interactive!  But how you say?  Well, you can send Twitter messages or Instagram captions to your loved ones by including the hashtag #moetmomentcapetown and it will appear on a light ribbon wrapped around the tree… and that’s not all folks… as an added bit of awesomeness, if you add the hashtag followed by the popping champagne bottle emoji, the 1 meter golden crown at the top of the tree will spin!

All the action will go down in the V&A’s sexy new Silo district, with Maps Maponyane playing host on the night.  Visitors to the V&A are also invited to enjoy delicious festive specials at select restaurants in the plaza with views of the Moët & Chandon Champagne Tree.

If you can’t make the official tree lighting ceremony on the 7th, don’t stress, the tree will be lighting up the Silo district until the 3rd of January giving you lots of time to pop down there and see your Tweets (or Instagram captions) up in lights.

If this doesn’t get you into the festive spirit, then I don’t know what will.  I for one am really looking forward to it.  Don’t want to miss out?  Then take note of the following details:

  • When?  Thu, 7 Dec 2017 @ 19:30 sharp
  • Where?  Silo Square (alongside Zeitz MOCAA & opposite The Yard)
  • Parking?  Parking zones 2 & 3 – check out the map over here.

I really hope to see you guys there.
