Dash Restaurant & Bar gets a new chef and a fresh new menu for Summer

by Karisa

The very sexy reception area of the Queen Victoria (as seen from above)… We did a little hotel tour before we sat down for dinner…

Chef Albert Bronkhorst has taken over the reigns at Dash Restaurant & Bar and I recently joined them for a Chef’s Table dinner to get a taste of his new menu.

Situated within the Queen Victoria Hotel in the V&A Waterfront, Dash has always been a top recommendation for me for a sexy date night or special celebration. The space is elegant, the vibe is very sophisticated and the food’s always been very good.  I was therefore excited to see what Chef Bronkhorst’s new menu had in store for us.  Paired with some beautiful Creation Wines, we sat down for a whopping 8 course dinner. (I very much regretted not wearing my stretchy pants)

As an interesting side fact:  Dash is named after Queen Victoria’s first dog – a King Charles Spaniel. #cute

The new menu still has a strong South African feel, but with hints of classic French, English & Asian flavours thrown into the mix.  But before we got into the food, we got into the drinks!

Welcome drink # 1 – Dash’s signature Six Dogs G&T…

Welcome drink # 2 – champers at their beautiful Manor House… yeah, such a tough life…

Back at the restaurant, we settled in for the big eat:

The space is complimented by art on loan from neighbouring gallery, Everard Read…

I may be a weirdo, but I get very excited by flavoured butters and a good bread selection. Dash did not disappoint in this area:

Oh yeah baby!

After that bit of buttery excitement, we got into the dishes for the evening.  If you’re hungry, you may want to look away now. 😉

A little seared tuna “amuse-bouche” to kicks things off…

Mushroom Port soup

Candied beetroot tarte tartin

Seared prawns on a corn bisque puree

Rooibos smoked risotto

Seared salmon on a saffron mash

Chermoula Lamb Wellington

Chocolate gelee mousse

And a cheese selection like no other!

Oh and just when I thought I was going to completely burst, some sweet snacks for the table:

Okaaaaay… maybe I have space for one more bite…

Needless to say, I left there stuffed and happy.  The new menu definitely keeps Dash on my sexy date night list.  Guys – if you want to impress your lady, you can’t go wrong with this one.

I’m going to give the new Dash menu a solid  on the Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale.  Have a look at their dinner menu over here, then call them on 021 418 1466 to make a reservation.

Dash Restaurant & Bar is open Mon – Sun for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
