Back to black & a little bit about my 9 1/2 week travel adventure

by Karisa

OK maybe not black… but it sounded sexier than saying “back to brown”.  You see I’ve gone back to my dark brunette roots.  Why?  Well because I’m going to be travelling for the next 9 1/2 weeks and I can’t take my favourite hair stylist, Gilbert Mofubelu, with me.  ** insert crying face here **

Over the past 12 months, Gilbert has taken be from brunette, to balayage diva, to dancin’ a bit on the blonde side, to a fiery redhead and now finally back to my dark, sultry roots.  Here’s a look back:

This man truly is the best when it comes to colour…

So yeah, bottom right is the colour we changed to end of last week – here’s a closer look:

At first I was worried that going dark would look boring, but I’m very happy with the result. There’s still a bit of the red coming through and it will probably lighten a bit as I wash it, but I definitely think this look will last a whole lot better until I’m back in Cape Town and Gilbert and I can go back to playing with different colours. I looooooved the red, more than you can imagine, but it took a bit more work to maintain…

So yeah, I’m really going to miss Gilbert, but I feel like he’s prepped my hair well for this upcoming adventure…  In the meantime, if you’re in need of a new look yourself, don’t look any further than this lovely man who will completely steal your heart while making you look amazing.  Gilbert operates from Hair on Kloofnek (16B Kloofnek Rd, Tamboerskloof) and you can make a booking by calling them on 021 422 2270/69 (ask for Gilbert, of course).  Don’t think about it, just do it OK!

And that little trip I’m embarking on?  Well this is what my itinerary looks like at a high-level:

  • Portugal for 21 days
  • Croatia for 20 days (with a day trip to Bosnia)
  • Austria for 4 days
  • Germany for 12 days
  • Belgium for 6 days, including the Tomorrowland festival which has been a major bucket list item for me for years

As we speak, I’m settling into my little apartment in the Alfama district of Lisbon in Portugal.  It’s beautiful here, not as warm as I had imagined, but hoping the weather will clear so I can get some much needed sunshine on my super pale skin. 😉

I will be posting a bit about my travels as and when I get a quiet moment.  But don’t worry, I also have lots of Cape Town content to share, so will be keeping the Cape Town news coming for sure.

To see more day-to-day travel activities, check out my Insta story feed on Instagramctmylove.  I’ve found that this is definitely the easiest way to share lots of pics and videos without flooding my main feed.

So yeah, this brunette is super excited to say the least.  Let the adventure begin!
