I’m doing a new “Tried & Tested” blog series featuring locally made products & small business that I love. If you have any suggestions of awesome small businesses to check out – please email me at: editor@capetownmylove.com ♥
You may know Las Paletas as the guys who make the delicious artisan ice lollies. They’ve been a permanent feature on the market & event scene for the past few years and you may have also spotted them in retail stores here in the Western Cape.

BUT did you know that they now also do sorbet & ice cream tubs? Yup, they’ve taken their (award*) winning ice lolly formula and branched out baby! You can expect the same goodness that made them popular in the first place: 100% natural, handmade and no added colourants or flavourants, but now you can enjoy it in pint form.
*Las Paletas was voted the best ice cream on a stick in South Africa at the SA Dairy Championship in 2017, 2018 & 2019.

They sent me 3 flavours to try: Lemon Meringue ice cream, Dulce de Leche ice cream & Granadilla and Vanilla sorbet:

I’m going to say the Dulce de Leche was my favourite, purely because it was an absolute creamy dream. But it only slightly beat the other two. If you love a sweet & sour vibe (think granadilla lollies on the beach), you’re going to really love that sorbet. And all the lemon flavour groupies out there would very likely arm wrestle me for the other lemon meringue.
But of course these guys are all about the interesting flavours, and with their tubs they certainly don’t disappoint. Some of the other options include: White Chocolate & Berries, Matcha, Apple Crumble & Smore’s. #yum
All of this goodness is available via their online store & delivery is available to most areas in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek & Paarl.
Their lollies range from R25 – R30 each OR you can purchase a box of 8 for R160, and their ice cream / sorbet pints are R90 each. They also do mini tubs (125ml) for R35 as well as mixed “Happy Boxes” with lollies, tubs & toppings if you want to go all out (of have many mouths to feed… OR you really just want to treat yourself – nothing wrong with that).
The online thing not your vibe? Then keep an eye out for their products at the following outlets:
- Restaurants: Poké Co across Cape Town, El Burro, Deer Park Café, Kleinskys Sea Point, Jean Restaurant, Constantia Clubhouse, Massimo’s Hout Bay, New Port Deli, The Foordbarn Deli in Noordhoek
- Retail Stores & farm stalls: Spar Cape Quarter, SuperSpar Sea Point, Kwikspar Greenpoint, Vredehoek Kwikspar, Anna Beulah in Durbanville, Frut – Durbanville & Somerset West, Rosmead Superspar, Fresh Stop Hout Bay, Peregrine Farm Stall, Houw Hoek Farm Stall
- Markets: V&A Waterfront Market, Root 44 Market
You can also place orders by emailing them at orders@laspaletas.co.za & then you also have the option to self collect.
Have something bigger in mind? They also do corporate events, weddings, birthday parties as well as alcoholic popsicle collaborations. So if you have any ideas you’d like to run by them, get in touch via their contact page.
Thanks to Las Paletas for the lovely ice cream gifts. It’s been a little taste of summer to come. 🙂
