If you’ve been lucky enough to visit Tribe Coffee over in Woodstock, you’ll know that these guys are all about great coffee, great food & great spaces. I was therefore very excited to hear about their new store over in Buitengracht St…
Tribe 112 is a new concept store which brings two great loves together: That of motorcycles and a mean cuppa.
Located within the Donford BMW Motorrad, this cool new cafe is there to welcome people from all walks of life, whether you’re a professional popping out for a quick break, a passionate motorcycle enthusiast, or somewhere in between.
The idea came about thanks to a collaboration between Mark Philp & Leon Potgieter, long-term business partners and owners of the Donford BMW car and motorcycle dealership in Stellenbosch, who then approached the Tribe team to help them bring their vision of creating a new & exciting lifestyle space to reality. Over in their new 2700 square meter inner-city showroom, customers are encouraged to hang out, relax, get a good feel for their dream motorcycle, and maybe even share a story or two with other enthusiasts.
The “adventure-themed concept café” serves up coffee to your taste as well as delicious breakfasts & lunches, alongside some tempting sweet treats. I joined a group of other food/coffee/motorcycle lovers last week to test a few things from their menu, and also to learn more about how this new space came about.
It was truly a spoilicious little treat as you’ll see from these photos…

They prepared mini versions of some of their most popular dishes – like their quiche, their mushrooms or toast and their fish cakes.
For the design of the café, Tribe’s Jake Easton collaborated creatively with Michelle Trimborn to create an organic industrial aesthetic with some 1950s & 60s touches. Their goal was a modern space which still honoured the biker culture of that era, and therefore you’ll find it to be a little dark & masculine, but well balanced out with lots of striking natural materials.
Now this trend of combining spaces is of course not a new thing; and the bike & café culture is already something which is hugely popular in locations such as Australia, Bali, LA, Milan and Munich. So I guess it’s safe to say that “biker chic” has arrived and is here to stay.
If you too want to experience some biker chic, then take note of the following:

Maybe you’ll start with a coffee & something to eat, then move onto a sexy new biker jacket, and who knows what could happen after that… 😉
