Right, so clearly I’ve been living under a rock or something, because I didn’t even know this carnival existed… (hangs head in shame) But a quick round of investigation concluded that the Harfield Village Carnival is quite a fun day out, so I figured it’s time I get in on the action.
This Saturday the carnival is back once again thanks to the good folks over at The Harfield Village association BUT they’re promising that this year is going to be the biggest & bestest one yet.
From 9am, 2nd Avenue will be closed off and filled with approx 200 stalls ranging from food, clothing & toys to jewellery, art & gifts (and basically everything in between).
The opening ceremony (which kicks of at 11am) will include the cutting of the ribbon by councillor Matthew Kempthorne to officially open the carnival, followed by a march by the Young Guiding stars sacred string band.
Throughout the day there will be live music in front of various restaurants to add to the festive feel, and there will also be a designated playing area for the kids with face painting & rides over in Wesley Street, so they’ll have lots to keep them entertained.
There’s also a raffle contest – R10 gets you in the running for prizes worth over R6000 in vouchers, hampers and other goodies. (Get your raffle ticket at the Harfield Village Association table)
For those wanting to avoid parking hassles (or of course drinking & driving – because there’ll be lots of great local beer & wine to sample), Uber is giving you your first ride (up to R200) free. Simply use the code: HARFIELDCARNIVAL
