I must say, I’m becoming quite the theatre lover of late… And a lot of that is thanks to the awesome guys at Theatre on the Bay who let me sit in on a new show every now and then.
The latest one was: EPSTEIN – The man who made the Beatles, starring Nicholas Pauling as the legendary Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein, and Sven Ruygrok as “This Boy“.
Being a big Beatles fan myself, it sounded like it would be right up my alley, and even though it’s more of a window into Brian’s life rather than that of The Beatles, it had me absolutely captivated from beginning to end.
As far as casting goes, I thought they got it spot on with both actors really managing to suck you into their characters.
I didn’t actually know this before watching the play, but Brian Epstein had quite a controversial personal life, and in the end he died in 1967 at the young age of only 32 from an accidental overdose.
The play I guess to me takes you through what must have been going through his head at the time, looking at the challenges he had to face, and what his relationship with John, Paul, George & Ringo was like towards the end.
Epstein is still showing until this Saturday, 17 October & I definitely give it a double thumbs up. If you’re keen to do a bit of theatre time yourself this week, take note of the following need to knows:
