My stay at The Capital Mirage (and stunning views at The Vue)

by Karisa

My bestie Leigh (from www.lipglossismylife.com) and I recently had the pleasure of spending a night at The Capital Mirage which is located at 40 Chiappini St in the trendy De Waterkant area.

Hello there Capital Mirage…

The very sexy reception area…

The hotel is all about slick inner city living, with modern comforts and a big apartment style rooms. They actually have 65 en-suite rooms to be exact with a selection of luxury & superior studios and then also 1/2/3 bedroom apartments.

Other property highlights include:  A rooftop bar, 3 dining options, a rooftop swimming pool, business desk, UNCAPPED complimentary WIFI, a gym, a Gin & Snooker Lounge, 24 hr reception & controlled security access, secure & complimentary underground parking (I really hate when hotels charge for parking – so for this they get a high 5) AND a complimentary shuttle service to the V&A Waterfront & CTICC.

They also plan on launching a spa & hair salon soon (for those who like a little pampering), and then they offer a complimentary laundry service on Mon, Wed and Thur which I thought was quite cool seeing as laundry in hotels can be an eye-watering experience.

Very cool decor…

Gorgeous common areas on each floor…

Gin & Snooker lounge…

We stayed in one of their Superior Studios which is 50m2 and comes fitted with a king bed, living area, modern kitchen, tea & coffee making facilities, and a full bathroom with bath & big shower.

Let me give you a quick tour:

Really nice, no?

I had a quick look on their online booking system and these start from R2630 per night.  Their Luxury studios which come with all the same trimmings but are just a little smaller at 42m2 start from R2430 a night (depending on when you want to stay of course).

On the food front, you can do in-room dining, or choose between the rooftop restaurant & bar, The Vue, or they have an Active Sushi and Famous Butcher’s Grill on site too.  So plenty of choices.

We had actually booked a table at our favourite Mexican Spot, San Julian, which was just a hop, skip and jump away.  Of course being located in De Waterkant means you’re super close to lots of trendy eateries, shops, etc. – so a plus if you feel like venturing out instead.  But before we headed out we knew we had to do sundowners at The Vue.

I mean just look at this:

Here’s looking at you Cape Town!

Bar sexiness…

More bar sexiness…

The tapas menu looked quite tempting… Will have to go back to give that a bash…

And then on the cocktail front we went for the Mountain Vue (R65) on the left and then I think mine was called the City Vue also around the same price… Both very tasty.

The next morning, breakfast was also served up on the rooftop.  Enjoying a full fresh fruit, cheese, cold meats, baked goods and warm breakfast spread with this view was certainly a fantastic treat:

Oh and this is the bar view by day…

Even our gorgeous Table Mountain is part of the backdrop…

After breakfast we also popped our heads out to check out the pool. Unfortunately it was a bit chilly on the day, but we’re coming back during summer, that’s for sure!

Great thing is that you don’t have to stay at the hotel to come and pop in at The Vue and even take a dip in the pool.  As long as you’re supporting the bar & the restaurant, you’re all good to go.  So do keep that in mind the next time you’re looking for the perfect chill spot (or event venue) with wraparound views.

For hotel bookings & general enquiries, you can contact The Capital Mirage on:

For The Vue reservations:

Overall The Capital Mirage offers a very chic city space, whether you’re staying over or just hanging out on the rooftop.   So if the city is where you wanna be, I’d say definitely keep them in mind.
