This past winter, the awesome folks at Fairview Wine & Cheese in Paarl hosted a series of food & wine evenings at their Goatshed restaurant.
This is in fact an annual food & wine series (which I didn’t know), so if you missed out on it this year, be sure to add it to your watch list for next winter.
The food is usually inspired by Resident Chef SJ Nel’s international travels which is then carefully paired with the estate’s beautiful range of wines.
This year, for example, there was a Spanish evening, a Moroccan evening, an Italian evening and then a good ol’ classic Shank & Shiraz evening – which I got to test drive for myself. #LuckyGirl
The price per person for each of these evenings was only R325 and included 5 courses with wines. I mean that’s crazy good value right?
The space is also warm and welcoming with under-floor heating and a cosy den feel, so makes for a lovely winter spot.
But to give you a better idea of what goes down at one of these evenings, here’s a few pics from the Shank & Shiraz evening I attended:
Now sadly their winter series has come to an end BUT they do still have two upcoming events I’d like to tell you about. The Fairview Cheese Celebration is happening on the 23rd of September and offers cheese lovers the opportunity to sample the farm’s winning selection of fine cheeses and wines.
Tickets cost R325 per person and the menu looks like this (with wine pairings included as well):
- Amouse Bouche
[Haloumi] Sundried tomato wraps - Starter
[Ricotta] Beetroot, Honey glazed Pecan nuts - Main Course
[Feta] Fairview Lamb, Potato bake, Green beans - Dessert
[Cheesecake] Brandied prunes - Cheese
Selection of finest Fairview Cheeses, Homemade preserves
To make a booking, please email goatshed@fairview.co.za or call 021 863 3609.
OR you can join them for an awesome charity dinner on the 21st of October:

Each year The Goatshed Charity Dinner supports a new charity with this year’s ticket sale proceeds going to Red Cross Children’s Hospital. Your ticket includes a four course dinner prepared by The Goatshed’s chef, SJ Nel, as well as beautifully paired Fairview wines to complement each dish.
