Cruise & Dine with Waterfront Charters and The Greek Fisherman, City Grill & Meloncino

by Karisa

Last week, on a verrrrry windy Thursday here in Cape Town I joined a group of other media/blogger types to experience the V&A Waterfront Cruise and Dine experience which is a collaboration between Waterfront Charters and 3 popular V&A restaurants:  The Greek Fisherman, City Grill & Meloncino.

Basically the deal is this:

  • Choose between either a 1 hour lunch cruise followed by a 2 course lunch at your choice of the 3 restaurants listed above at a cost of only R335 pp
  • OR a 1.5 hour sunset cruise followed by a 3 course dinner at your choice of restaurant for only R599 pp

(excl. gratuity of course & then these prices are valid until 30/12/2016 – excluding Xmas day.  There will be a slight increase for 2017 – the lunch option will go up to R355 & dinner R629)

Now I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a pretty awesome deal…  I mean, getting to explore our beautiful waterfront harbour from the water side AND then enjoying some yummy food afterwards.  Not a bad way to spend an afternoon or evening at all.

Waterfront Charters also has 3 cruising vessels to choose from:  Serenity, their brand-new sailing catamaran; Esperance, a classical twin-masted sailing schooner and the Southern Cross, a fun cruiser based on a sturdy trawler design.  So different options depending on the size of your group and the type of cruise you’re looking for.

For our little media trip we got to test drive their new Serenity catamaran:

As mentioned above, the wind wasn’t really playing along on the day but we did at least get to enjoy a glass of bubbles or two while taking in the sights…

After safely arriving back, we were split into 3 groups – one for each of the 3 participating restaurants.  I was in the Meloncino group, which was cool as I’d never tried out this restaurant before.

Meloncino serves traditional Roman food with a modern touch.  They’re also aaaaall about the views, as you’ll see below:

When booking one of these Cruise & Dine packages there are special set menus for each restaurant which you can have a look at on the Waterfront Charters – Cruise & Dine page before you decide.

On the Meloncino dinner set menu we kicked off with a selection of antipasti to share including  fresh black mussels cooked in a delicate olive oil, garlic & chili sauce and served with toasted garlic bread.  Then there was a choice of 3 mains (including a veggie option), and then finally 2 choices for dessert.

The mussels & Insalata di Grappolo d’oro were my favourites from the antipasti selection. The line fish main was beautifully cooked. And then that Torta with baked cream pasticciera and white chocolate on a milk chocolate biscuit base was a fantastic way to end off the evening…

We also got to quickly pop our heads in at The Greek Fisherman:

As well as the City Grill:

I think it’s a pretty nice selection overall – steak, seafood & Italian covers quite a few bases and there’s definitely something that’ll appeal to most.

So whether you’re looking for a fun group/family/function option, or a romantic outing for 2, do keep these Cruise & Dine packages in mind.
