Foxcroft – a total foodie must!

by Karisa

What happens when you take an Eat Out San Pellegrino Chef of the Year and his long-time, super talented pastry chef and let them go about creating an all new restaurant space?  You get magic, that’s what you get… Foxcroft magic… 🙂

Chef Scot Kirton (you’ll now him as the Chef Proprietor of the internationally acclaimed La Colombe Restaurant) and his long standing pasty chef, Glen Foxcroft Williams, created this slightly more casual dining experience which opened towards the end of 2016 after which it has already won Eat Out’s New Restaurant of the year award.  How’s that for impressive hey?

It’s been on my “must do list” for a while now but it can be tricky to secure a booking at times as it’s (quite understandably) very popular.  Luckily my friend D and I were able to secure a table for two for lunch over the Easter weekend using their online booking system, so off we (finally) went…

Foxcroft is located in the High Constantia Centre, on the corner of Groot Constantia Road and Constantia Main Rd (next door to Greens).  They’ve got both indoor and outdoor seating which was a huge plus on the day because we got to enjoy the beautiful weather under the leavy trees.

Foxcroft also has a really nice wine list featuring wines from Swartland, Stellenbosch, Hemel-en Aarde, and Constantia itself…

So relaxing…

The interior decor is quite laid-back yet modern with wood & tan leather accents and deep earthy tones:

Next door they also have an in-house bakery where you can buy freshly baked croissants, breads, macaroons and pastries.  The bakery is open daily from 8am till 4pm.

Foxcroft keeps things simple with two dining options:

  • Lunch menu:  R 395 per person | Select any 2 tapas, 1 main and 1 dessert
  • Dinner menu:  R 435 per person | Select any 2 tapas, 1 main and 1 dessert

We loved the idea of being able to try different tapas and decided to pick 4 between us that we could share.  After a lot of umming and aahing, we settled on:

Tuna Crudo Green olive, chicory, roasted pork fat dressing, preserved lemon

Squid Chorizo, ajo blanco, wild garlic

Mussels Bacon, confit lemon, soubise

Lamb Rib Harissa, smoked garlic, aubergine

Then for mains I had the Chalmar Beef with duck fat chips, carrot, brussels & café au lait:

And D had the 7 Day Dry Aged Duck Breast with turnips, fermented plum, gem squash & kale:

And for dessert I had the Pineapple – roast pineapple parfait, mango & coconut:

While D opted for the Rose and Coconut Panna Cotta with cashew & lime:

As you can see from these photos, each dish is prepared with the most incredible attention to detail and flavour-wise every single dish and every single bite was as good as it looked (if not even better).   We really couldn’t fault anything.  Not even the tiniest detail.  This was fine dining at its best.

The service was also very attentive and fast, the setting was lovely, and seriously – the food has had me craving to go back from the moment we got back into the car…

For all these reasons I’m going to give Foxcroft an easy top score of  kiss5on my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale, because this truly was an exquisite experience.

To get in on the Foxcroft action, the easiest is to use their online booking system.  OR you can contact them on 021 202 3304.

Lunch sittings start at 12pm with the final sitting at 2pm, and dinner sittings starts at 6pm with the final sitting at 8:30pm.

The address again:  Shop 8/9, High Constantia Centre, Corner of Groot Constantia Rd and Constantia Main Rd
