I give Mulberry & Prince another try & am really glad I did

by Karisa

Mulberry & Prince is a cosy little spot located at 12 Pepper St in the Cape Town CBD.  I attended their launch back in May of 2016, loved the space & thought their food concept sounded very interesting, but to be honest you can’t really judge a menu from canapes at a launch.  I then visited them for dinner with a friend a couple of months later and wasn’t really blown away.

Therefore, when my friend Dax (he from www.relax-with-dax.co.za) recently suggested we go there for dinner,  I wasn’t super excited, but figured seeing as he loved it so much, maybe it would be good to give them another try…  and you know what, I’m really glad he bullied me into it, because this time round, the food was great.

Decor-wise, they keep things quite simple…

But I really like the minimalist look…

The space kinda wraps around in an L-shape…

Now the food at Mulberry & Prince is meant to be shared.  The menu is small, with only about 10 items to choose from, and the size of the plates are small to mid-sized.  This means that between two people, you need at least 4 to 6 dishes.

The menu does change regularly from what I understand.  On the night, it looked like this:

Dax and I opted to go for the salmon tartare, the duck liver mousse, the stracciatella, and then a special pasta dish that wasn’t on the official menu for the night.

This was a beautiful dish. Fresh flavours, lovely & light. A great way to start off the meal…

The duck liver mousse was definitely my favourite… So creamy, so delicious, I still think about it weeks later…

The stracciatella, which is a cheese produced from Italian buffalo milk, was interesting as I’ve never had this before…

And then the pasta dish with its parmesan crust was a lovely cheesy, comforting way to end off the meal…

I definitely could’ve eaten more… I guess that’s my only complaint, after 4 dishes and approx. R550 later (wine not included), I was still a little hungry.  So this is definitely becomes a bit of a splurge meal.

But other than that, the food really was excellent, the service was friendly & attentive and the atmosphere was cosy & relaxed.  For these reasons, I’m going to give Mulberry & Prince a score of on my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale & I definitely look forward to popping in again sometime.
