Get into the festive spirit with the Moët & Chandon’s Golden Tree Lighting Ceremony

by Karisa

Can you believe December is already upon us!?! I feel like I blinked and then 2018 was over… If like me you’ve been too busy to even attempt to get into the festive spirit, then Moët & Chandon’s Golden Tree Lighting Ceremony which is taking place tomorrow evening (Thu, 29 Nov 2018) in the Silo District in the V&A is probably exactly what your soul needs…

Look how pretty!

I mean, let’s be serious… how could a golden tree made entirely out of beautiful champagne bottles not bring a smile to your face?

The evening will also include performances by the South African Youth Choir as well as the Cape Town City Ballet, and the best part:  This is a FREE event open to all!

SA Youth Choir

Sitting at an impressive four-storeys high and built with over 1800 recycled champagne bottles collected from all over South Africa, the Moët & Chandon Golden Tree will be wrapped in a shimmering gold ribbon created using over 2000 discs.  Once the sun sets, visitors will be wowed with an impressive lighting display, with 230 metres of LED lights individually programmed to illuminate in sync with your favourite Christmas carols.

This year Moët & Chandon have also created the ‘Moët Music Box’ which will allow visitors to interact with the tree by turning the music box lever which activates a magical 40-second lighting show.  That sounds pretty awesome right?

So gather family & friends and head on over there to join in on a little bit of festive season magic.  The flyer below breaks down all the important need-to-knows:

For those who can’t make the official lighting ceremony tomorrow eve: The tree will be up until 6 Jan 2019 – so you’ll still have a chance to go and check it out.
