So how does a girl celebrate the end of a 7 day detox? With a carb binge of course! Luckily the team at Basilico over in Newlands totally had my back…
This venture into the Southern Suburbs (yes yes, we all know I can be a bit of a town snob at times) was thanks to an invite from awesome PR “Diva” Alison Foat. Along with a group of other equally awesome folks, we got to work our way through the menu and enjoy a great evening with friends in an easy, relaxed setting.
Let me give you a quick tour of the place:
Really cool right?
Wine (of course) was also high on my I’ve-been-craving list and over and above the food fiesta we were going to tuck into, the lovely folks from Waterford Wines had also gifted us some of their lovely Chenin Blanc:
Now Basilico is one of those family style spots with an easy Italian menu that’ll appeal to young and old. You can choose from salads (priced R65 – R75), pastas (priced R69 – R95), and a big selection of wood-fired pizzas (priced R56 – R101, or just get creative and create your own), along with some other meat, chicken & fish mains as well. (You can check out their full menu over here)As you’ll see from the food collage below, we did well:
But there are some all-stars I’d like to point out. From the starters selection, I really loved this beetroot salad:
My favourite pizza by far was the Torino with bacon, blue cheese & pear: And then for dessert you might be tempted to go for a comforting malva pudding, or a classic chocolate mousse. But listen to me, and listen to me good. Thou shalt not miss the opportunity to try the awesomeness that is the Citrus Tart (R45). Served with an orange cream, a shot of lemoncello granita and vanilla angliase, it was my personal highlight of the evening: Some other titbits to mention is that they have a lunch special Mon – Sat from 12:00 to 16:00 for only R45 (you choose from a selection of pasta, pizza or salads), and Basilico is conveniently open 7 days a week from 12:00 until 22:30 all days except Sundays when they close at 21:30. Call them on 021 683 5989 for reservations.I have to say a BIG thank you to Basilico, Waterford Wines, Alison and the gang (Jon, Angel, Max, Fazielah & Leeyon) for making my entry back into the world of eating a really fun one (and for probably creating a need for another detox, but hey, it was worth it).
