I test drive the new Voila! over in Bantry Bay

by Karisa

This past weekend I was invited to go and try out the new Voila! over in Bantry Bay.  My friend D and I decided to pop in for lunch after our noon gun expedition on Saturday.  After all, touristy outings does leave one famished…

There she is…

Some of you might already know the Voila! over in Cape Quarter, but this new branch is in the spot where the old Salt Cafe used to be, right across the road from the Ambassador Hotel.

It’s got a lovely deck area out front and a welcoming wooden interior with pops of lime green and orange.  But pictures say it better than words do, so let me give you a little tour:

Ooh they also have a bar, cocktail anyone?

There’s a little deli section in the back where you can grab yourself a little something for home (olive lovers listen up – owner, Bonita, says they’ll soon be making & selling their own olives.  Mmmmm).

Oh and then they also have a cake table that will certainly leave your waistline sweating bullets:

So evil, but oh so good for the soul, right?

Voila! is a great spot for breakfast, lunch, maybe a spot of afternoon tea (with a big slice of cake of course) or an early dinner with a glass of wine.  Their menu has lots to choose from, including various breakfast options, gourmet sandwiches & wraps, pizzas & pastas, some beautiful salads (I was eyeing these out as they passed our table) and other main meal dishes as well.  Also, everything you’re getting is top quality, think freshly baked bread, freshly squeezed juices & homemade ice tea just as a few examples.

As this past weekend was a total scorcher, D and I kicked things off with their homemade lemonade (so refreshing btw) after which we shared the crispy calamari (R86) and the butter chicken wrap (R74):

Oh and for dessert we each had a milkshake.  D went for the Tutti one which is all fruity and stuff, and I went for the Bar-one milkshake. I’m not a big fruit milkshake fan, so D’s stood no chance next to my choice of chocolate deliciousness…  so good.

Everything was really fresh & tasty, but the dish that stole the show was definitely the calamari.  They add some chilli & garlic to the mix, so it has extra punch, which we both really loved.  And who doesn’t love a little herbed side salad and a side of skinny fries. Great dish.

D and I had a really lovely time at Voila.  The setting is beautiful, the service is friendly and the food is great.  For those reasons I’m gonna give Voila! Bantry Bay the following overall score on my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale:

kiss4

Wanna check them out for yourself?  They are open Mon to Sun, from 7:30am until 6pm and you can contact them on:  021 439 3354.

And if you’re worried about parking:  Over and above the bit of parking out front, you can also park at the hotel across the street, or around the back of the building (entrance on Victoria Rd side, just past the restaurant).
