Absolute bliss at Tintswalo Atlantic (and info about their Winter Warmer Experience)

by Karisa

There are definitely moments where I really just want to pinch myself and go “Wait, I get to do what??”…

A recent moment like that came in the form of an offer of an overnight stay at the incredible 5 star, uber luxurious Tintswalo Atlantic on Chapman’s Peak drive, just outside Hout Bay.  Now having once seen this property on Top Billing, I did a big dorky happy dance in my lounge once I heard the news.  (And I’m sure my friend Melain did the same thing when I asked her to be my “hot date”)

A warning though – you will likely hate me once done reading this post. 😉

Nestled within the protected Table Mountain National Park, sitting right on the shoreline with a pebble beach out front, the Tintswalo Atlantic truly takes your breath away from the moment you step inside:

There are 10 spacious Island suites and one Presidential suite each named after & decorated in the style of a famous world island, and all boasting breath-taking views of the ocean as well as Hout Bay’s famous Sentinel.

Each suite comes with a private balcony (from where you can do some whale watching during whale season), a fireplace (for those cosy winter nights), an en-suite bathroom with a BIG bath & shower, a fully stocked mini bar, fluffy gowns & slippers and probably most importantly an extremely comfy extra-lenght bed.

We stayed in the Madura suite – named after the Balinese Islands and according to them their “most masculine suite”.  Let’s have a look shall we:

I warned you guys that you were going to hate me…  We also got a sneak peek at the Sicily Suite which was equally gorgeous:

Now there are two heated pools at Tintswalo Atlantic, the one is on the main deck (I included a picture above) and the other is situated on a seperate pool deck a short walk beyond the suites.

Melain and I decided to settle at the latter for the afternoon, after all it does come with a cooler box filled with drinks (high five!):

Waiters also pop by regularly to check in on you in case you need a snack or something…

I must say, I was impressed by how protected the pool deck and the rest of the property is from the wind.  Definitely a big plus…

As you can imagine, sunset time at Tintswalo Atlantic is quite a special treat.  Not only do you get a front-row seat to the golden hour, but you also get to enjoy canapés & sundowners on the main deck while doing so.  (OR if you wish, they’ll bring it to your room, they’re completely flexible like that)

That’s me with my gorgeous friend Melain below left…

They have an awesome little tradition at Tintswalo, which each guest gets to partake in.  It involves throwing a stone from the pebble beach over your left shoulder and making a wish.  Isn’t that sweet?  I loved it…

My wish might of course involved finding a super wealthy husband, travelling the world and never having to work a day in my life again… #agirlcandream

Sundowners was then followed by a 3 course dinner (well 4actually, they throw in a little something to kick things off and then you have 2 choices for each course from there).

Sidebar:  The dinner menu changes daily based on what ingredients are freshly available.

We first had some soup, then I opted for the tempura prawns with herbed rosti, sweet soy reduction and a vine tomato & wild rocket salad; the gorgonzola crusted beef fillet served with sweet potato puree, savoury leeks, braised baby aubergine & cranberry jus; and the soft chilli chocolate cake served with pine nut brittle, mango puree, orange chips & Amarula mousse.

The food was impeccable and I truly loved every bite.  If you can’t do a stay over, at least do yourself a favour and come here for a meal.  (Just make sure you book well in advance – dinner here is quite popular)

Dinner was followed by a soak in that amazing tub back in our suite and then we fell asleep to the sound of the waves…  it really doesn’t get better than that…

For those wanting extra pampering, a massage therapist can also be arranged and was in fact arranged for us as a little treat before breakfast the next morning:

Say it with me… aaaaaah….

Talking about breakfast, as you would expect, this too is a blissful culinary experience:

How cute is the good morning message in the butter?

Another sidebar:  For those who like to stay connected, you’d be happy to know that there is also wifi throughout as well as computer facilities at reception and a fax & phone in your suite.  But my advice would definitely be to fully switch off while you’re there.

Now do you want an opportunity to experience all of the above for yourself?  Of course you do!  So let’s get down to the details of their Winter Warmer Experience which they’ve just launched:

  • From March until August 31, 2014 – Enjoy a stay in one of their luxury Island suites with dinner and breakfast included, complimentary bubbly on arrival, all tea, coffee and juices included, a 30-minute spa treatment per guest, transfers to and from the hotel, as well as walks around the Table Mountain Reserve.
  • The cost is R6500.00 for 2 people for 1 night (so it’s a room rate, not per person) OR R10500 for 2 people for 2 nights.
  • For reservations and enquiries please contact Dumi by email on res3@tintswalo.com or by telephone on 011 3008700.

But like I mentioned above, if this is a little out of your reach, do at least try and book a dinner, lunch or breakfast here.  You just have to see this place for yourself…

Before I sign out, I have to say a HUGE thank you to Nicky Arthur PR for coordinating our stay.   Then of course to the team at Tintswalo Atlantic for looking after us so well AND for giving me some of my best Instagram moments to date:
