Watching movies just won’t be the same after you’ve experienced the awesomeness of watching a movie under a starry sky with The Galileo Open Air Cinema.
If you haven’t yet given it a try, what are you waiting for? And for those who have been & loved it, you better hurry up cause there’s just about one more week left in their current cinema season.
The Galileo Cinema takes place across 3 venue here in Cape Town (I’ve already been to the first two, will have to hit up the last one to make it a full hat trick):
- Tuesday nights: Hillcrest Quarry in Durbanville (On the Hillcrest Wine Estate)
- Wednesday nights: Kirstenbosch Gardens in Newlands
- Thursday nights: V&A Waterfront, Croquet Lawn (above Ulundi Parking)
The movies start at 19:30 sharp, but gates open at 18:00 so you can get there a bit earlier to grab a good spot and get yourself something to eat & drink. (There are different food & drink stands available at each venue – check out the venue links above for all the info on these.)
So what’s still on the schedule?
- Wed, 16 Apr: Life of Brian (Kirstenbosch)
- Thu, 17 Apr: The Big Lebowski (V&A)
- Tue, 22 Apr: Braveheart (Hillcrest Quarry)
- Wed, 23 Apr: Slumdog Millionaire (Kirstenbosch)
- Thu, 24 Apr: American Beauty (V&A)
Tickets range from R70 – R95:
- R70 for entry only
- R79 for entry + blanket
- R88 for entry + chair
- R95 for entry + chair + blanket.
– I highly recommend going for the chair option, it makes things way more comfy. Plus you can’t bring in your own chair or backrests, only blankets/cushions. - Tickets are available from Webtickets over here.
Other important things to take note of:
- In the case of heavy rain or strong wind the show will be cancelled. You will receive an e-mail and sms to confirm the cancellation and will be refunded by 17:00 the following day.
- No pets allowed.
- No refunds or exchanges.
- Oh and make sure you dress warmly, even though our days might still be hot, it gets quite chilly at night.
I’ll leave you with some pictures taken from the Galileo website to further tempt you:
