Why not enjoy a little staycation with the Crystal Towers Hotel & Spa

by Karisa

The beautifully elegant and just plain sexy Crystal Towers Hotel & Spa over in Century City is running some cool specials at the moment to promote Capetonians enjoying a little “staycation” break.

I mean, when we live in such an incredible city, why feel the need to head out of town right?  Local really is lekker and that’s exactly what I got to experience when they invited me over to enjoy my very own staycation break…

Beautiful both inside and out…

Now Crystal Towers has a very unique look-and-feel.  When you step inside, you kinda feel like you’re inside some super sleek, ultra modern art gallery of sorts.  Let me show you what I mean:

Ground floor features include their absolutely gorgeous Ruby Bar which can be compared to a hot screen siren in a fiery red dress:

Other ground floor features include:

A business lounge, a 24 hr deli and their elegant Towers Restaurant

Then moving up to the first floor, you have their award winning Life Spa:

In 2013 this spa won the award for Day Spa of the Year (just so you know)… Sadly I didn’t get the chance to fit in some pampering time, but it’s definitely on my to do list to pay them a visit.

The first floor also houses the Pool deck & Bar:

It’s a great spot to enjoy some of these…

But also the best spot to enjoy the sunset, which on the night changed from a golden glow to a beautiful bright pink:

Then moving further up, the hotel boasts 180 elegantly furnished rooms which all have great views of Table Mountain, fun LED mood lighting, a space-age like bathroom, and a TV that pops out of a box in your bed base! (OK that one clearly got me very excited, not sure if it’s the same in every room, but it was definitely a cool feature):

That tube there bottom right is the shower… cool right?

Dinner that evening was suuuuch a treat….  Normally hotel restaurants are good, but I really wasn’t expecting the food to be as good as it was.  They have quite an extensive a la carte menu, and then for those booked in with their new “One Night to Live the Crystal Life” package (which I’ll explain in detail below), you get to choose from an Exclusive Chef’s set menu, which I understands changes regularly based on special dishes the Chef has created:

I ordered both my starter & main from this menu, while my staycation partner-in-crime & bestie Leigh, ordered from the regular menu.  One would possibly be concerned that the set menu isn’t as good as the normal menu, but what I can happily confirm is that it’s completely on par, possibly even slightly better.  I went for the grilled cob & beef fillet (descriptions above), while Leigh went for the Tuna & Avocado tartare starter (R100) and the line fish main (R160) which was served with a Herbes de Provence crust, cauliflower, shallot confit, Patagonia squid, a champagne cream and a salsa verde:

Bottom left: Grilled cob; Bottom right: Tuna & Avocado tartare

Top left: Beef fillet – and oh my goodness, that little ravioli looking pocked on top of my fillet was the “truffle explosion”.  It completely blew me away; Top right: Line Fish; Bottom left: Inside out Hertzoggie (R55); Bottom right: Roasted banana ice cream (R55)

The only thing that I will say is that the desserts were a little disappointing when compared to how fantastic the starters and mains were.  I quite liked Leigh’s roasted banana ice cream dessert, but I didn’t really enjoy mine.  I should have gone with the red velvet dessert on the Chef’s set menu I think.  The waiter’s description of that sounded really good, but the Afrikaans meisie in me wanted to try that Hertzoggie.  But that said, we mentioned it to them and they were really cool about it and all round this was still an excellent dining experience with great service & great food and I would recommend it to anyone, whether you’re staying at the hotel or not.

When we got back to our room, they had done a little romantic turndown for us, obviously to show us what it looks like as it’s part of their one special package currently available, but I must say it was pretty funny seeing as we were too just besties, enjoying a little girls getaway.  We of course took full advantage of taking some awesome pictures with our lovely swans though:

They also fill the bath with some bubbles & rose petals… definitely a nice touch if you’re there with someone special…

Now say it with me: Breakfast buffet!  I do love a good breakfast buffet and that’s exactly what you get included with your stay.  We slowly worked our way through the fresh fruit selection, the various cheeses, the hot dishes and more and left there having to unbutton the top button on our jeans.  But it was totally worth it…
