The thought of it just really didn’t excite me in any way, shape or form…
When I recently finally popped in for my bowl of Ramen, it was literally because my friends had dragged me there kicking and screaming (OK, it wasn’t quite that dramatic, but let’s just say I wasn’t too enthusiastic about their dining choice).
Downtown Ramen is situated at 103 Harrington Street, right above Lefty’s (in fact, these two spots are owned by the same folks); and as the name suggests they serve up some traditional Japanese style noodle dishes along with some other small things.
As far as decor goes, there’s really not much to the place. It’s small and basic, but I didn’t mind that too much…
The menu is simple – choose something to drink, maybe a bao to snack on & then a ramen bowl and you’re done:
I went for the Shoyu Ramen – a light broth with Charsu pork belly & sprouts (R75). They’ll also ask you if you want egg & chilli (it’s optional). I figured that sounded good, so I added that in as well:
One of my friends also opted for a Bao (R35) which is a type of steamed, filled bun:
I think this was the Charsu Pork belly option as well, or it also could’ve been the beer braised beef short rib… My memory fails me…
For that reason, I’m happily going to score them a top score of on my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter – just for the food alone. If you’re looking for a view, sexy decor, or major ambiance, then this is probably not where you’re gonna want to end up. BUT if you’re looking simply for a good bowl of food, you’ll be very very happy here.
With that I have to humbly apologise to Downtown Ramen for building up such an unfair blah image in my head. You proved me wrong in a big way, and for that I give you guys a solid round of high 5s. #IWillBeBack
Wanna pay them a visit? Then get your butts over there… They’re open Mon – Sat from 5pm and 10pm.

Also have a weird mental block against ramen. It’s so freakin’ high in kilojoules and I just assume it could never be worth it. Like you’d be eating a big fat bowl of pot noodle or something. But that piccie does look good. Going to give it a bash some time soon.
It really is worth the kilojoules. I’d happily go back there for a bowl of ramen with you 🙂
