Check out the all new Cape Town Comedy Strip

by Karisa

If like me you love a good laugh, then listen up…

The Cape Town Comedy Strip is a unique new comedy concept created by local comedian, 3 time SAFTA Award winner & the voice behind Trevor Noah’s puppet on ZA News – Mamello “Mum-z” Mokoena.

Basically he’s rallied together a few of the cool spots on Cape Town’s famous Long Street to create a comedy hub of sorts; and with South African comedy talent being a hot topic right now (thanks to Trevor Noah’s appointment as the new host of the Daily Show of course), the timing simply couldn’t be better.

The venues which form part of this new comedy strip will host various stand up comedy evenings featuring both local and international comedy talent.  This means that you’ll literally have something to laugh about on a regular basis.  #WhatsNotToLove

Let’s take a look at the venues & their schedules:

  • The Dubliner, 251 Long Street – Every Last Tuesday of Each Month
The Dubliner at Kennedy’s, as a venue, is part of the backbone of what makes Long Street such a vibrant street.  It is the first authentic Irish pub on the strip and offering live music every night has made The Dubliner an extremely popular venue.  Now The Dubliner is including regular comedy nights, every last Tuesday of each month as part of the Cape Town Comedy Strip.  The next show at The Dubliner will be on Tuesday, 28 April 2015 and will feature: Mum-z, Shimmy Isaacs, Khanyiso Kenqa, Liam Bento and Gino Fernandez.  Snap up those tickets over here:  http://www.quicket.co.za/events/9077-dubliner-comedy-twist/#/schedules
  • Beerhouse, 223 Long Street – Every First and Last Wednesday of Each Month
Beerhouse is a curator of craft beer and it’s popularity on Long Street is due to it’s bright, fresh, well lit open plan ambience, it’s prime location on upper Long Street and its selection of over 100 different craft beers.  Recently Beerhouse launched the Mash Tun Room, which is an entertainment room that hosts quiz nights, live music and now regular stand up comedy, every first and last Wednesday of each month as part of the Cape Town Comedy Strip.  The next show at the Beerhouse will be on Wednesday, 29th April 2015 and will feature: Martin Davis, Conrad Koch, Yaaseen Barnes, Tracy Klass and KG.  Snap up those tickets over here:  http://www.quicket.co.za/events/8961-comedy-on-long/#/schedules
  • Iconic Lounge, 164 Long Street – Every Thursday
Iconic Lounge is a bar / lounge / club situated one floor above Mexican On Long and boasts a very rare 2nd floor view of Upper Long Street. Iconic Lounge was the first venue on Long Street to be included in the Cape Town comedy Strip and has already hosted great comedians such as Rob Van Vuuren, Schalk Bezuidenhout, KG and Mum-z.  Iconic Lounge hosts comedy nights every single week on a Thursday night and now makes Phuza Thursday much more hilarious and enjoyable.  The line-up for the rest of the month looks like this:
23 April 2015: Tracy Klass, Dalin Oliver, Gino Fernandez and Liam Bento.
30 April 2015: Martin Davis, Kellyn Coetzee, Mum-z and Dylan Skews
And you can snap up your tickets over here:  http://www.quicket.co.za/events/9081-comedy-at-iconic/#/schedules

All 3 venues offer table seating, food and fully licensed bars.  Doors open at 8pm and comedy starts at 8.30pm on all nights, and tickets are a very easy R50 per night for each / every venue.

So come on people, get yourselves some good laughter therapy.  We can all do with more of that in our lives.  For more info & regular updates on Comedy Strip happenings, be sure to connect with them on the following channels:
