Malagasy inspired cuisine, Three Ships Whisky & a Madagascan adventure

by Karisa

This was a Monday like no other… Firstly a beautiful setting above the Truth Coffee HQ in Buitenkant Street.  Then a taste bud tingling whisky & food pairing celebrating Madagascan cuisine (otherwise known as Malagasy cuisine) AND the chance to meet explorer & adventurer, Riaan Manser.

Now for those who have not yet heard of Riaan – he was not only the first person to cycle around the perimeter of Africa (a journey which took over 24 months), but also the first person to circumnavigate Madagascar, the world’s fourth largest island, by kayak.  Oh and just to be clear, he did both these trips completely alone & unadied.  I mean sjoe… I feel chuffed with myself after a simple gym session.  I can’t even imagine how incredibly tough & rewarding a trip like that would be.

Now at present the folks from proudly South African blended & single malt whiskies, Three Ships Whisky, is offering one lucky person and a friend the chance of a lifetime:  To kayak around Madagascar with this world-renowned explorer and Three Ships Master Distiller, Andy Watts.

As pioneers in the South African whisky market, Three Ships Whisky, wanted to continue in this pioneering spirit by partnering with Riaan for a competition first (I mean who else has ever given away a trip like this?)

So in the spirit of this amazing competition, we were invited to come and enjoy a food & whisky pairing with a Madagascan twist while Riaan & Andy told us all about this upcoming adventure.

The scene of the lunch… beautiful, isn’t it?

On arrival we enjoyed some delicious Three Ships cocktails… (best way to brighten up a Monday I say)

The incredible Malagasy inspired menu prepared by the super talented (and super lovely) team from Slippery Spoon Kitchen

From left to right we have the Three Ships 10 Year Old Single Malt, the Three Ships 5 Year Old Premium Select & the Three Ships Bourbon Cask Finish.  The 5 Year Old Premium Select was my favourite.

Master Distiller, Andy Watts, talking to us about the Three Ships whisky making philosophy & history

Riaan Manser talking to us about his crazy adventures… Such an inspiring guy, truly.

Oh and I just have to show you what the food looked like. It was an absolute feast. Well done to the Slippery Spoon team. This was some of the best food I’ve ever had at an event.

So I know what you’re thinking… that all looks great… But how do I make sure I’m in the running for that once-in-a-lifetime trip??

It’s simple:  Buy a bottle of Three Ships Whisky & follow the instructions found on the bottle.

Need more motivation? Then watch the competition promo video over here:

Seriously people, what are you waiting for?  Enter now!  Entries close 31 May and the winner will be announced on 15 June.  So there’s not a lot of time left… #DoItNow #DontMissOut

And then a big thank you to Three Ships for this completely spoilicious luncheon.  Mondays will never be the same again 😉
