About 2 weeks ago, the guys from InstaEatsCapeTown (follow them on Instagram or Twitter) invited me to join them for their #NewWeekNewSpot feature.
As the name would suggest, they try out a new Cape Town spot every week and then share their findings on their social media streams. Cool idea, right?
As it was First Thursday, I had already planned a little roaming mission, and as luck would have it they were trying out Dapper Coffee Co (73 Strand St – or rather on the cnr of Strand & Bree) which was nicely located on the route.
Dapper is a very cool little spot which is actually co-located within Club9 – a new classic & luxury sports car showroom. So if you’re in the market for a new set of wheels (and you happen to have quite a bit of money stashed away), this may interest you as well… But seeing as I’m a girl who’s had my Mini for 10 years now and am nowhere near ready to let go, my focus was on the food…
Club9 is owned by seasoned car collector & expert, Dirk Molsen, and then Dapper is run by Dirk’s wife, Lauren & son, Alex. The goal behind Dapper was to create a space where both Club9 members/shoppers as well as your regular passersby could enjoy a great cup of coffee, a quick bite or even a lekker lunch.
The menu, which was designed by Chef Luke Wonnacott, is based on local & seasonal ingredients and covers a selection of breakfasts, salads, sandwiches, burgers (with or without the bun) and other light meals, and then their coffee is their own Dapper Coffee Co special blend.
On the night, we decided to order a couple of different dishes which were then passed around for each of us to get a little taste. We did some burgers, salads & an open salmon sandwich. This is what it all looked like:
I can’t say that there was anything I didn’t enjoy… Burgers = good. That salmon open sandwich = so good. Bunless burger option = also good. But the thing that surprised me most was that I really enjoyed both salads (like a lot). You see, I’m not normally a salad person, and you most certainly won’t see me ordering one in a restaurant. I actually love that joke that goes: If you see me eating a salad in a restaurant, I have been kidnapped and I’m trying to signal you.” But in this instance, I was very happy to be digging in.
I’d sum up Dapper’s food offering as: Awesome flavours & simple meals done really well.
And for that reason I’m going to give Dapper a score of on my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale.
