It’s the Harfield Village Carnival this weekend – don’t miss out

by Karisa

It’s time once again for the Harfield Village Carnival.  I attended this carnival for the first time last year and had an absolute blast.  This year I’m unfortunately missing out, but that doesn’t mean you should…

Weather predictions are looking good at a pleasant 20 degrees with no rain predicted, so this is your weekend instruction to get out there and enjoy the variety of stalls, food & drinks, great entertainment, as well as the big street party vibe.

It really is a fun day out for both young and old and everyone in between, and to make things even better – it’s all for a great cause as all funds raised will be going back into the improvement, greening, schools, charities and general upliftment of the area.  #LoveIt

On the cards for this year’s carnival:

  • Approx. 150 stalls
    • Ranging from food, arts and crafts, clothing, jewellery, homeware and novelties
    • Stalls will run from 9am to 6pm
    • The market area will be extended to Purley Park where there will also be entertainment
  • Food & beer court
    • This year the stalls have been removed from the restaurant area to create more seating for carnival goers and also to create one large food & beer court with live music and DJs
    • The street party will take place from 6pm to 11pm
  • Kids area
    • Located in Wesley St & featuring jumping castles, crafts games, face painting and shows

  • Opening Ceremony
    • Which will kick off at 11am with a march by the Young Guiding stars sacred string band followed by various carnival parades, stilt walkers, puppets, unicycles, jugglers by eMzantsi Carnival throughout the day creating a real festive carnival atmosphere

How to get there?  Uber is always a good idea – that way you can drink & be merry without worrying about getting home safely.  If you’re new to the app, get your first ride up to R200 free by entering the code “Harfield Carnival”.

Still undecided?  Then have a look at some photos from last year’s carnival:
