Dinner with a sexy view over at Durbanville Hills

by Karisa

My laptop crashed at the end of Feb while in Zanzibar thanks to a power surge… My heart completely sank because I had just offloaded a whole bunch of photos onto it for various blog posts I still wanted to do… #crisis

Long story short, it took quite a few weeks for my laptop to be repaired with insurance claims and all that drama, but I finally have my tech world back on track and now I can tell you all about my amazing tour, wine tasting & dinner at Durbanville Hills.

Um yes please!

If you haven’t yet been to the Durbanville Hills wine farm, you must add it to your list.  It’s a really beautiful farm with some of the best views in the area…

For our tour, we were taken through the wine making process, looking at how their white & red wines are produced. And then we also did a lovely white & red wine tasting to whet our appetites for dinner still to come…

For your information:

  • You too can join a cellar tour, Mon – Fri 10:00 t0 18:00.  You just need to book it 24hrs in advance.  It costs R65 pp and includes a Crystal Tating of 8 wines.  (Duration: 90min)
  • Or you can just pop in for a wine tasting, Mon – Fri 10:00 to 18:00, Sat 10:00 to 16:00, Sun 11:00 to 16:00.  They offer 3 options:
Crystal Tasting: A selection of eight wines including a souvenir crystal glass. Price : R50.00 (Duration : 1 hour)
Chocolate & Wine Pairing: Selection of five wines paired with five artisan chocolates. Price : R70.00 (Duration : 45 minutes)
Biltong & Wine Pairing: Selection of five wines paired with five types of biltong. Price : R90.00 (Duration : 45 minutes)

But then, the real star of the show… Dinner at their gorgeous restaurant upstairs with sexy views for days…

Make sure you get there in time to watch the sunset… It’s quite an experience…

For dinner they offer 2 amazing deals:

  • 2 Course – R225 including wine pairing
  • 3 Course – R295 including wine pairing

Yes, you read that correctly… INCLUDING wine pairing.  That’s crazy good value…

And if you’re clever, you’ll do what myself and my friend Janine did.  We each opted for the 2 course – I did a starter & main, she did a main & dessert and that way we could try a bit of everything by sharing the starter and the dessert. Genius 😉

Of course, if you think you can manage all 3 courses on your own.  Go big!  At only R70 extra it’s totally worth it.

For starters we had the Braised duck spring rolls with spiced orange, soy and sweet chilli dressing. Then for mains I had the Beef fillet with roasted pearl onion & garlic, wild mushrooms, rocket, biltong and truffle jus. Janine went for the Namibian Lamb Rump with potato crisps & corn salsa. And then we finished things off with their Dark chocolate and hazelnut tart with ginger syrup & chantilly cream…

Everything was absolutely delicious.  Good, hearty meals, presented beautifully.  We simply couldn’t have asked for anything more.

The wine pairing is also a really nice angle as it’s a way of showcasing how well their different wines work with various dishes.

And seriously, at that price?  And with those views?  An absolute winner.

I’m going to give their dinner deal kiss4_smudge on my  Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale & I seriously urge you guys to check it out.

Not sure if they’re planning a change of menu for winter, but I’m sure if they do, it’ll still be a great deal.

For bookings, call them on +27 (0)21 558 1300.
