Do go and check out “The Yellow Wallpaper” currently showing at The Kalk Bay Theatre

by Karisa

On Wednesday evening I attended the media night for a new show at the Kalk Bay Theatre called “The Yellow Wallpaper

It’s classed as a “Gothic horror / drama” and features South African actress, Henri Landon.

Now one-person plays / solo shows always make me a bit nervous because if the acting is bad, it’s bad – there are no other actors to buffer things.  But I have to say:  Henri’s acting is impeccable and she’ll have you completely sucked in from the get go.

The story is also really clever and quite dark.  I like dark…  If you like dark too, then this is definitely going to be your vibe.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Jane is not well. Rest, a rigid daily schedule and freedom from all care and work is prescribed. Secluded in a country estate, the yellow wallpaper occupies her mind. The yellow wallpaper disturbs her rest. And a forbidden series of journal entries is the only means of expression she has. A chilling, satirical gothic horror story, The Yellow Wallpaper is full of secrets. You have three nights to uncover what you can.

The Yellow Wallpaper is showing until Sat, 2 July and cost wise you’re looking at R125 pp BUT, if you go on Tue, 28 Jun – each ticket admits two people.  #High5ToThat  AND on Thu, 30 June they also have a dinner special where you buy one main and get one free…  Sounds good, no?

PLUS, it’s also a chance to check out one of the cutest theatres in SA.  I mean just look at this:
