La Mouette’s Late Summer menu looks sooo good…

by Karisa

Some exciting things are happening over at La Mouette…  Chef Henry has decided to do away with their old-style a la carte menu in favour of a seasonally inspired 3 or 6 course menu.

Personally I’m super excited about this change, particularly because I’ve been a fan of their 6 course tasting menu for ages now.  In fact, whenever I’m asked for a restaurant recommendation for a special occasion, La Mouette & their tasting menu is without fail always one of my top suggestions.

Another cool thing is that their summer trading hours will continue until after Easter, which means you can visit them all 7 nights of the week for dinner or over the weekend for lunch.  We may have technically moved into Autumn, but Cape Town definitely still has a few summer-like days up her sleeve, making their courtyard the perfect spot to recline & dine. 😉

And to celebrate the fact that summer is not quite over just yet, they’ve just launched their 6 course Late Summer Menu, which looks like this:

Tuna tartare rye crisp taco
Crème fraiche, chilli and coriander

La Mouette croquettes
Parmesan aioli

Chilled vichyssoise panna cotta
Smoked leek, shoestring fries, leek oil and ash

Edible bird’s nest
Crisp glass noodles, pickled mushrooms, liquid butternut and coconut

Charcoal mayonnaise, sweetcorn and umami dressing

BBQ Caesar salad
Cured egg yolk, charred baby gem, aged parmesan, chicken jus

Fontina ravioli
Parmesan bread crumbs, baby artichokes and black truffle tomato dressing

Crispy glazed pork cheeks
Turnip purée, fermented turnips, apple, pickled mustard seeds and pork crackling

Crispy lamb shoulder
Potato gnocchi, salsa verde, smoked aubergine and house made ricotta

Beef sirloin
Mushrooms, baby spinach, truffle mash and café au lait sauce

Line fish
Braised fennel, burnt orange, pine nuts, cucumber gremolata

Tandoori cauliflower (V)
Onion bhaji, apple purée, sago crisp and pickled cucumber

Cheese picnic
Buckwheat flatbread, tomato chutney and pickled onions

Cape Malay dessert
Mango sorbet, coconut, puffed black rice

Melting Ferrero Rocher
Salted hazelnut oil parfait, praline cremeux and chocolate sauce

Black sesame cake
Coconut sorbet, coconut mousse and passion fruit jelly

This 6 course menu costs R445 pp (or R820 if you go for the wine pairing option).  They also have a Late Summer 3 course menu at R375 pp which you can have a look at over here.
