New winter menu items & comedy nights over at Nomad Bistro & Bar

by Karisa

Winter… a time for red wine, chunky knits that hide your winter bulge and stuffing your face with all the yummy foods! The folks at Nomad Bistro & Bar‘s gets this, and that’s why they cleverly decided to add a few new tempting items to their menu for winter.

I recently joined them for a bit of a menu sampling session followed by some stand-up comedy – they host comedy nights every Tuesday, a great option for winter entertainment when that winter cabin fever starts setting in…

Setting up for the comedy line-up later in the evening…

So what are those new winter dishes we got to try?  Well have a look-see at this:

Everything was served in sample size, so don’t stress when you see the little soup shot glasses below.  The normal portion is a nice big bowl.  Standouts for me were the mushroom soup (I freakin’ love soup & this one was truly delicious), the avocado & bacon soup (interesting & different – also a great choice), the peri peri chicken bunny chow (who doesn’t love a good bunny chow right?), the naartjie pork riblets (you’ll definitely be licking your fingers), and the malva pudding (the perfect winter dessert).

The other items weren’t really my vibe.  If you love seriously hot curry though (like seriously hot), you’ll probably also enjoy the spicy chicken Manchurian.  It was too hot for me personally…

The avo soup is the one in the middle and the mushroom one is up front…

From left to right: mini bunny chows, spicy chicken Manchurian, arancini, roast butternut & chickpea dippers…

Those yummy riblets I mentioned…

And the malva pudding… #yum

Comedian, Schalk Bezuidenhout, doing his thing…

As mentioned above, these comedy nights happen every Tuesday and features 5 standup acts.  The show starts at 8pm and tickets only cost R50 (which you can purchase at the door or online from Quicket over here).

It gets quite busy, so I’d recommend that you book a table and have something to eat before.  To do that, contact them on 021 418 3020.

Nomad Bistro & Bar is situated at 33 Waterkant Street, Cape Town.
