If you’re heading to the Grahamstown National Arts Festival, don’t miss Angel Campey in Devil’s Advocate

by Karisa

Now I haven’t been to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in more than 15 years, so I think it’s safe to say that I’m completely out of touch with what goes down at the fest and what the lineup’s generally like… BUT one thing I can say is that all round cool chic, Angel Campey, is taking her show, Devil’s Advocate, to this year’s festival and it’s something you should definitely check out if you’re planning on heading there yourself.

I’ve known Angel (and yes, that is her real name) for a couple of years now  and can vouch for the fact that this lady is super talented.  She’s not only a kick-ass stand-up comedienne who spent most of 2016 in New York City performing at some of the world’s top comedy clubs, but she’s also a TV Writer for a little show you may have heard of: ZAnews? Oh it’s only won 4 consecutive SAFTAs for Best TV Comedy and earned Angel 2 Muse award wins from the Screen Writer’s Guild of South Africa for Best TV Comedy Scriptwriting in 2016 and 2017.  On top of all that you can currently catch her on Smile90.4FM for the Smile Drive with Maurice Carpede and then she’s also been hosting her own show for the past 5 years on 2oceansvibe radio. So yeah, she definitely works it on all fronts.

But back to Devil’s Advocate…  Directed by Tara Notcutt (you’ll know her from Three Little Pigs, Miskien and Rob Van Vuuren’s WhatWhat & Life) and produced by Siv Ngesi (you’ll know him from Mnet’s Wingin’ it and SABC3’s Man Cave), this new stand-up comedy special was written by Angel herself and she’s hell-bent on proving that she’s no angel, or at least reminding us that the devil was once an angel too.

Devil’s Advocate will debut at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown for nine consecutive performances from 30th June to the 8th July 2017.

The show is rated 16, so just keep that in mind if you’re visiting the fest with younger peeps and tickets can be booked from: www.nationalartsfestival.co.za/events/devils-advocate

That Trevor Noah quote…  hehe… 🙂
