The De Waterkant area is of course well-known for its awesome coffee spots, galleries and eateries… But Ground Art Caffe has somehow managed to blend all of those things into one fantastic little space that’s definitely a must see.
Located at 16o Strand St, this cool corner spot serves up a mean cuppa made from their very own Ground African Arabica artisan roast. They also do a lovely selection of Nigiro teas, freshly squeezed juices, pastries, paninis, freshly baked cake, an antipasto platter, and a recently launched, sexy new breakfast menu.
Then once a month on First Thursday, they launch a new art exhibition featuring a different artist each month. This week they’re launching Colours of the Heart by Michaela Rinaldi – a collection of Contemporary Figurative paintings which will then be on display (and for sale) at Ground until the 6th of December. Check out their Facebook page for a little preview of the collection…

September was Beauty in Bloom by Jamie-Lee Cohen. Then in October they had these really cool black & white mixed media abstracts by Liffey Joy (almost bought one!)
Back to the palatable things you’re gonna want to try… I’m normally not a big green tea person, but when it comes served like this, you’ve just gotta go for it:

That’s the number 1 in the back (freshly sliced fruit bowl with yoghurt & toasted muesli) and the number 2 up front (avo poached eggs, sliced fresh tomato, toasted mixed nuts & micro-greens)…

This is the number 6 – Italian scrambled eggs with pancetta, rosa tomatoes, provolone & wild mushrooms…

And this is the number 7 – oven baked eggs on a base of red-wine tomato sugo, topped with provolone & fresh basil…
I’m going to give the Ground experience a very easy on my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale & recommend that you pay them a visit.
Ground Art Caffe is open: Mon – Fri 7am to 5pm & Saturdays 7am to 2pm (closed on Sundays). Also remember to join them this Thursday from 6pm to 9pm for First Thursdays – everybody’s welcome.
