Looking for the perfect weekend getaway? Book at stay at the Simon’s Town Quayside Hotel

by Karisa

So a couple of weekends ago I got to spend a night at the newly refurbished aha Simon’s Town Quayside Hotel.  The refurbishment included a complete overhaul of all 26 bedrooms, bathrooms & public facilities as well as the addition of 3 new bedrooms which now brings their total number of rooms to 29.

I was really excited to get out of town for a night, particularly because I hadn’t been out to Simon’s Town in ages and really do love it there.  Also, the aha Simon’s Town Quayside Hotel sits right on the water’s edge next to the Simon’s Town Yacht Basin and right in front of old Just Nuisance – the legendary dog that watches over this awesome little town.  So location wise, you can’t really ask for anything better.

I mean just look at that view…

Quite a luxurious welcome as you step into the reception area…

The hotel has 8 sea view rooms with balconies, 14 sea view rooms without balconies and then 7 mountain view rooms.  The revamp included updated furniture & accessories to modernise the rooms and give them a more luxurious feel.  They also replaced all bath tubs with state-of-the-art showers to align with water saving trends and the aha group’s longer term water conservation strategy. #HighFiveToThaT

We were lucky enough to stay in one of the sea facing rooms that has a balcony:

So beautiful, absolutely love that colour…

All rooms also come with coffee/tea making facilities so you can enjoy a cuppa in bed before starting your day…

I’m actually contemplating a bold wall like this in my apartment now…

That bed was super comfy…

Oh and how about this view:

And that balcony:

Sitting there while enjoying the pink sunset that evening was absolute perfection…

We spent our afternoon downstairs at Bertha’s for some seafood and ice cold rosé, while listening to some music courtesy of this lovely man and his guitar:

Cheers!

Then for dinner we popped into Saveur, which is adjacent to the hotel.  Cool fact – Saveur is also where hotel guests can enjoy breakfast (which is included in your stay), but for other meals you can also charge these to your room, not only at Saveur, but at a couple of other nearby restaurants too.

For starters we had the baked brie & the Gambas pil-pil… both delicious

For mains we dug into some juicy steaks…

And for dessert we shared a homemade chocolate brownie…

I have to say, this was an awesome meal.  It really wasn’t expected as hotel restaurants can sometimes lack some spark, but because this is an independent restaurant, it’s got it’s own vibe with lots of locals popping in for dinner, so it’s really nice.

Breakfast the next morning was an equally lovely experience.  They do a cold buffet as well as an a la carte hot breakfast menu.  We opted for a little taste of both…

Morning views…

A little snack while browsing the hot selection…

A yummy farm-style breakfast to get us ready for the day…

Saveur also has a little outside area which you can take advantage of on sunny days…

Other than wining & dining, there’s quite a lot you can do in Simon’s Town.  You can browse the cute little shops, catch a boat trip to Seal Island or Cape Point, visit Boulders Beach to go see the penguins & maybe enjoy a beach picnic, or if you’re feeling quite adventurous you can also arrange some shark cage diving.  Simon’s Town is also a quick 15min drive away from Cape Point Vineyards if a leisurely afternoon of wine tasting is what you’re after.

So yeah, a great little spot to getaway from it all without having to drive for hours on end or catch an expensive flight somewhere.  We only stayed for one night, but it really did feel like we were away for longer.

Would I recommend a stay at the aha Simon’s Town Quayside Hotel?  Definitely, yes!  We had a lovely stay and I know you will too.  A worthy mention is that the team there is also super lovely and very helpful, which really adds to the overall experience.

Hop on over to their Specials page on their website to have a look at some great deals they’re currently running, or use their online booking system to get an idea of room pricing overall.

To the aha Simon’s Town Quaside Hotel team I’d like to say a very big thank you for looking after us so well.  I really hope to do a return visit again at some point (hopefully not too far into the future). 🙂

xxx
