Keen for a sexy night out? Then TAU in De Waterkant is your new go-to spot

by Karisa

Two weeks ago I attended the opening of new Cape Town night spot, TAU.  TAU, which means “Lion”in Setswana, is situated at 30 Napier Street, right next door to Crew Bar.  Now I know some of you will be thinking wait, does that mean this a gay bar – no it’s not, not that it matters in my book, I have had some fantastic nights at Crew Bar, but yeah – it’s a regular club, catering to all.

Now even though hitting the clubbing scene really isn’t my vibe anymore (thanks to approaching 40 at a speed faster than your body losing collagen from the age of 25), I liked the sounds of TAU as an “intimate boutique electronic music venue”.  The more intimate the better for me really, because well, big scary night clubs are just… scary.  But even though it’s an intimate space, it doesn’t mean they’ve cut any corners on the wow factor.  It’s a beautiful venue which has been specially designed to bring together the best in music, sound & lighting while offering a sexy, sophisticated space where you can take it all in.

Let me give you a quick tour:

According to TAU’s artistic director, Candice Heyns, their approach to music, where only the best international and top local acts will be their primary focus, is what will set them apart from the rest of the Cape Town night scene.  I personally think it’s going to be the awesome moving light installation on their dance floor, but hey – I do love shiny things. 😉

Other things to point out:

  • Friday club nights will include disco, house, tech house, deep tech and techno with either a top local or international act;
  • While Saturday evenings will be enchanted with collaborated theme nights that will be one of a kind experience, week after week.

TAU is open Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as on special occasions such as public holidays.  The venue will be available for other functions during other days of the week, providing a full-service events solution for any occasion, such as a launch or fancy pants birthday party.

So yeah, put on some slick threads (do people still say that? haha) and get your butts over there.  I mean, it’s the weekend baby, and that’s definitely reason to celebrate.
