The perfect date night with the Twelve Apostles Dinner & movie package

by Karisa

What better way to spend a cold winter’s night than with a tantalising dinner followed by a movie in a cosy, not-your-average-mainstream cinema?  Yup, that’s exactly what you can experience at the luxurious, 5 star Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa with their special ‘Dinner and a Movie’ evenings.

For only R395 per person, you get the following:

  • Special 3 course movie dinner designed by their executive chef, Christo Pretorius, at their beautiful Azure Restaurant
  • Followed by a movie in their private, 16 seater cinema which is kitted out with big, comfy red chairs where you can sit back & relax while they further treat you with popcorn, hot chocolate, milkshakes and sweets to your heart’s content.

It of course makes for the best date night with your significant other.  Or if like me, you don’t have one of those, it also makes for a pretty great night out with a friend (or friends)…

But now I know you guys love pictures, so let me give you a visual tour of how the evening will flow (because I was recently lucky enough to give it a little test drive for myself):

As you can see the Azure Restaurant is oh-so-beautiful with it’s nautical theme…

Then do yourself a favour and also step outside onto their deck… as you’ll see below,  the view is totally worth braving the cold…

Now the special movie menu looks a little something like this:

There’s also a selection of vegetarian dishes on the back which includes dishes like: A Roasted Butternut Agnolotti with butternut gremolata, homemade labneh, toasted walnuts and sage butter; or an authentic Cape Malay Vegetable Curry – a slightly sweet and spicy curry with star-aniseed basmati rice, sambals, warm butter roti and a poppadum.

Top right – I went for the Prawn Dahl starter, then bottom left – the Blesbok main and bottom right – the White Chocolate Mousse dessert. Top left – other extras are also thrown into the mix, like a bread basket fit for royalty and a little amuse-bouche to kick things off.

Oh and wait, there was also a palate cleanser display like no other:

Say it with me… oooooooh…

Now for the movie side of the evening, the cinema offers a wide variety of films from old classics like The Sound of Music & The Rocky Horror Picture Show to recent releases like Star Trek Into Darkness and The Great Gatsby.  They also do popular chick flicks such at Dirty Dancing (my fav!) and Eat, Pray, Love and on our night we watched the butt-kicking year 2000 flick, Charlie’s Angels…

The cinema… looks inviting, doesn’t it?

And me with my “hot date”, bestie Leigh…  And yes, an awesome photo bomb by fellow dinner guest DJ Hyphen…

Just important to note:  Screenings are not private unless a group books the entire cinema – otherwise guests are likely to share the screening room with other hotel guests.

Now for the nitty-gritty:

  • The monthly movie schedule includes three dinner screenings daily, at 17:30, 20:30 and 22:30 (we did the 20:30 show and then had dinner before at 18:30 – it’s good to give yourself enough time to really enjoy all the courses)
  • For their monthly movie schedule – hop on over here (You can also check out their Dinner & Movie page over here)
  •  To book, contact restaurant reservations on +27 (0) 21 437 9029 or email restaurants@12apostles.co.za
  • And for those who wish to make a whole night of it, there is an added stay over option as well – The ‘Dinner, Movie…and Stay Overnight’ package is priced from R1345 per person sharing per night & it includes an overnight stay in one of the hotel’s plush guest rooms, the three-course dinner, movie & snacks along with a full English breakfast the following morning.

Keen for something a little different?  I’d say definitely check this out.  I definitely give their Dinner & Movie package a full score of  kiss5 on the Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale.
