So just before I went off on my blog break last year, I partied the night away with the team from Orphanage Cocktail Emporium to celebrate the launch of Johann’s Dining Room.
But what exactly is Johann’s Dining Room all about? Well the Orphanage guys have decided to take on a series of “Orphan Chefs” who will be creating special menus for Orphanage guests to enjoy. Orphan Chefs are described as talented young chefs who have not had their own restaurants before, and each chef will headline the Dining Room for a minimum period of 12 months.
The very first Orphan Chef is Johann Breedt who trained in the UK with with Raymond Blanc and who has since worked at The Twelve Apostles, Lanzerac, The Westin and most recently The Taj Hotel. Johann has created a tempting tapas style menu which is great for sharing and includes options like: Pizzetta Zucchini with Avocado, Peas & Ricotta with a Basil & Grape Chutney, Charcoal Grilled Spicy Chicken Skewers and Panga Fritters with Spicy Mayonnaise.
Orphanage has long been a favourite of mine. If you’re looking for a spot to have some drinks, it’s always one of my suggestions. I’ve also always loved the decor and the sexy feel of the place, and their cocktails really are the some of the best in town. I think the addition of Johann’s Dining Room is a cool idea, giving this old favourite of mine a fresh new touch.

Queen Priscilla Cocktale recently came back to Cape Town after her European Summer season where the headlined at the world-famous Jackie O’Beach Club and quay side night-club in Mykonos, Greece. She is the latest resident for the summer season and will be preforming every evening during dinner (at around 9:30pm) at Orphanage.

This is a random photo, but I love it… You see, that’s me in the background… but doesn’t it look like I’m about to murder someone?! Haha… Karisa, she can kill you with just one look 😉
They do get quite busy some evenings, so I would recommend booking a table if you’re planning on having something to eat. Otherwise the dishes are at least easy enough to enjoy at the bar as well.
