Although I really enjoy their wines, the Nederburg farm situated in the Paarl area was a to-do list item that just seemed to linger and linger… Well that was until a recent invite to try out their beautiful Red Table Restaurant.
Now I know seeing these pics will be slightly cruel, because on the day my friend Kim and I popped in for lunch the weather was absolutely beautiful. But I figure it’ll be good inspiration to get out & about as soon as this miserable weather gives us a bit of a break. 😉
Situated in their classic Cape Dutch Manor House which dates all the way back to 1800, The Red Table has a luxurious interior coupled with a relaxed deck area where you can dine under the lush trees. The restaurant also opens up to sprawling lawns – a great spot to relax on a picnic blanket (which they provide) before or after your meal.
To drink, we enjoyed a bottle of their Heritage Heroes Range – The Young Airhawk:

This really is a beautiful wine & as you can see from the golden stickers, also an award-winning one… If you happen to spot it at a wine shop, grab it.
It was really tough to choose, because everything sounded absolutely delicious. Luckily Kim makes for a great partner-in-crime, because she doesn’t have any food sharing issues. We therefore decided to pick our top 2 starters & mains and split them half-half. #GoTeam #FoodHappiness

Clockwise from top left: Shredded, slow-roasted duck, beetroot, spinach and orange segments (R65), Sautéed wild mushrooms on garlic mozzarella bruschetta with rocket (R65), Grilled lamb rump, crème fraiche baked sweet potato, sautéed seasonal veg, white wine rosemary jus (R140) & Grilled beef fillet, potato gratin, tenderstem broccoli, young carrots, red wine bone marrow jus (R155)

Cardamon infused orange crème brulee and a lavender biscotti (R55), and the salty caramel centred chocolate fondant with a berry compote (R65)
After lunch we took in the beautiful surroundings by chilling on the lawn while our food settled. We were very close to napping right there on the grass, that’s how peaceful it was. There’s also the option to play some croquet, if that tickles your fancy. And for those with little ones, this is run-around-like-mad heaven.
Now as far as my official Miss K Kiss-o-Meter rating goes – I have to say that the service was friendly & attentive from beginning to end, the food was delicious and very well priced for the standard of food they’re offering, and that setting, well what more could you ask for really. For all these reasons I’m going to give The Red Table Restaurant a score of:

I have to say a big thank you to Nederburg & The Red Table team for this spoilicious treat. I’ll definitely be heading back – this time with a bigger crew.
