I check out the burger & beer special over at The Taproom

by Karisa

In my quest for the ultimate Cape Town burger, one place kept popping up as a suggestion:  The Taproom at Devil’s Peak Brewery in Salt River.

Now I’ve featured the space before thanks to one or two events I’ve attended here, but let’s have another look at it’s sexiness:

The special, which only runs on Tuesdays from 6pm to 9pm works as follows:

  • R55 for a 150g cheese burger (normally R75) with a pure beef patty and a layer of creamy Swiss Emmental cheese paired with a 320ml glass of Devil’s Peak Brewing Company’s First Light Golden Ale.
  • For the veggies – there is a vegetarian option available.  And for the weight-watchers – you can swap out your side of thin-cut fries for a salad.

An ice cold beer on a hot day sure goes down well…

And the burgers are served…

Happiness…

Loved that the bun seemed to be custom made to the exact size of the patty.  Also loved the juiciness of the patty which is served on the medium-rare side of the spectrum.  The creamy slice of cheese tops things off perfectly, and just like that a seemingly simple burger becomes music to your taste buds.

Overall this burger got a big double thumbs up from the table, and on my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale it scores a top score of:  kiss5 (thus equaling Jerry’s Burger Bar in Obz)

The Taproom is open Mon – Sat from 12 – 10pm (kitchen) and 11am – 11pm (bar), as well as Sun 12 – 6pm (kitchen closes at 5).

But as mentioned above, the burger & beer special only happens on Tuesdays from 6 – 9pm.  To book your table, contact them on 021 200 5818.

I’ve been told that their lamb burger (R80) is something to be experienced as well…

Am I happy that I finally tried out their highly recommended burger? Hell yes.  Will I be heading back? For sure.
