Tomorrow evening I’m heading back to Kalk Bay Theatre (the cutest damn theatre by far) to check out a new show called Dear Breeder.
It’s apparently a show that has a little something for everyone, but will especially appeal to parents & grandparents… (can you say: time for a mommy & daddy’s night out?)
This 2-woman musical comedy had 2 sell-out runs at the National Arts Festival 2014/15 and has also raked in some awards including the coveted Standard Bank Ovation Award, Best New South African Script and Best Comedy Performance (Female) at the Durban Theatre Awards.
Need some more encouragement to check it out? Here’s are a couple of comments from the press:
“..nothing short of genius”
“Clever, quirky, hilariously funny” artSmart. A multiple award-winning musical comedy that is as absurd as the art of parenting itself. 3 uniquely insane, instantly recognisable South African mothers encounter Darth Vader, the underwear fairy and a staple-gun wielding baby Jesus.”
Dear Breeder is showing until 2nd April, but if you really can’t make your way to Kalk Bay theatre during this time, don’t fret, because there’s a few other shows coming up that may also tickle your fancy… From a French serenade, to stand up comedy cabaret and some sexy piano playing, to a comedy dance drama featuring the theatre owners:
Tickets only cost R125 each BUT on Tuesdays you get two for the price of one. Yup, that’s right – buy 1 ticket and get one FREE. I think that just sorted your Tuesday night plans people…
Bookings are easily done via their website, www.kalkbaytheatre.co.za, where you can easily pay by credit card, or there’s also an option for paying via EFT or SnapScan.
You can also join them for dinner before hand – I can’t vouch for the food because I’ve never eaten there, but it does seem like a convenient option if you’re wanting to extend your evening a bit. Tables are available from 6:30pm onward for dinner and the shows usually start at 8:30pm.
Join me by showing some love for local talent and this awesome little theatre. It makes for a cool little outing and has great date night potential. What’s not to love?
