On Sat eve I attended the opening night of “Shades of Love” presented by the Cape Town City Ballet.

Running until 22 May with 6 more performances planned, the program consists of a set of ballet pieces, each which explores a different aspect of love.

Evening performances include Miraculous Mandarin (Bartok), Towards Illusion (Britten) and Sarabande (Ravel).

And at matinee performances, Glazunov variations replaces Miraculous Mandarin because it is not suitable for children.

Actually I have to say – Miraculous Mandarin had me on the edge of my seat.  Like my friend Janine said: “If all ballets were like that, more people would watch ballet”  That’s for sure! It’s one hell of a steamy piece… Ooh la la… (not for those with a “delicate demeanor” – but if you’re like me and you love a bit of sauciness, it’s probably going to be your favourite piece)

Tickets for evening performances of Shades of Love range from R120 – R220 and for matinees from R100 – R180

Pensioners & Students: R70 per ticket with student or pensioner card required.  Scholars (6 – 16 years): R70 per ticket (not at evening performances)

It’s beautiful, it’s saucy, it’s top local dance talent at it’s best… What’s not to love?   Book those tickets now people and show our ballet stars some love:
