Last week I joined the the team from Come Wine With Us for yet another evening of winding & dining awesomeness. This time they partnered with KWV Wines to #rediscoveraclassic – their range of Roodeberg Wines.
All the action went down in the gorgeous Roodeberg room at KWV in Paarl, and to tie in with the #rediscoveraclassic theme, the dress code required a “touch of vintage”.
Upon arrival we were treated to KWV Brandy Cruxland G&Ts that were served with trimmings like rosemary and thyme which added a nice twist to this classic drink.
Smooth jazz sounds provided by the talented Calenda Mexico set the scene perfectly as we ventured through to the dining room to take our seats at the rather impressive, room-sized dining room table…
Once seated, winemaker Anneke took us through the history of KWV Wines’ Roodeberg Wines, touching on its rich history which dates back to 1949.
Roodeberg Wines were not widely available in South Africa until 2004, but luckily for us these beautiful wines, created by Dr Charles Niehaus and named after the red colour of the Paarl mountains at sunset, were flowing in abundance on the night…
Of course beautiful wine needs beautiful food to accompany it… Kokkedoor winner and now well-known chef, Mynhardt Joubert, prepared a 5 course modern French-style menu inspired by the great Julia Child who is of course recognized for bringing French cuisine to the American public with her debut cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
Things kicked off with steak tartare paired with a 2015 Roodeberg White. The second course was tuna nicoise paired with a 2015 Roodeberg Rose. Third course was bouillabaisse paired with the 2015 Roodeberg Red. Fourth course was boeuf bourguignon paired with Roodberg Reserve 2014, and then we finished off the night with a delectable 90% dark Lindt chocolate tart paired with the Dr Charles Niehaus Roodeberg 2012.
Just look at at this feast:
I mean, have you ever seen me THIS happy??
