I check out Ravish Gourmet Health Cafe in Bree St

by Karisa

The cutest little gourmet health cafe has opened towards the bottom of Bree St.  It’s called Ravish and I must say, I’m quite taken with the place…

First, let me show you around so that you too can fall in love with the decor:

Gorgeous right? Now let’s talk food…

Ravish is all about keeping things healthy, tasty & fresh, but where “healthy” is definitely not boring or tasteless in any way.

On the drinks side, they do raw juices, super smoothies, coffees and other hot drinks like their G and Tea (ginger, lemon tea). I was coming down with flu, so the guys recommended the Ginger Rush raw juice (R38 – Ginger, carrot, apple, lemon), and my dining partner in crime, Roux, opted for the Magic Juice (R38 – Apple , pineapple, lemon ,mint, ginger , turmeric , coconut water):

Love the cute little bottles… and both juices were very tasty & refreshing…

Then on the food side – we were there for Sat brunch, so had a choice of their breakfast options which include an omelette, power eggs, creamy oats, yoghurt, berries & muesli, or the winning option (well at least in my book), the Morning Glory (R70 – Free range poached eggs, Ravish quinoa veg patty, caramalised onions, rocket, greens, cherry tomato). Don’t you love that name? #toocute

How sexy looking is that plate…

I struggle to eat quinoa in general, so I always take my hat off to anyone who can make the stuff tasty. This was hands down one of the best quinoa-based dishes I’ve had in a verrrry long time. Overall the dish was really good, would’ve just loved a bit more of that balsamic reduction, but I was left with a full, happy tummy without any of the guilt of a normal morning fry up.

Roux still had a bit of space, so he also tried their super smoothies. He had a small taste of their Happy Chap and then a full size serving of their Buttercup (R52 – Banana , dates, cacoa, Mesquite Superfood, vanilla , cashews, organic peanut butter).  This baby I have to say was so damn delicious.  Like a thick, yummy milkshake, but again without any of the guilt…

I love you Buttercup!

On the lunch side of things they do build your own salads and wraps along with some set lunch items as well. I had my eye on their Ravish Gourmet Bunless Burger (R85 – Organic beef patty topped with garlic aioli, roast tomato reduction, caramalised onions, grilled mushrooms and served on a Ravish organic salad). It sounded so good. They actually also do a veggie version packed with protein and topped with smashed avo, pineapple salsa and organic micro-greens. Check it out:

Then for winter they’re also doing a few special items, like a home made kale, broccoli and coconut cream soup. Mmmmmm…

Now I do realise that healthy food is not going to be for everyone.  BUT if you have been looking for a “good-for-you” alternative to your regular breakfast/lunch spot, I highly recommend that you give them a try.

I really enjoyed the experience (and I felt like it gave me an extra boost that day) and for that I’m going to give them a score of kiss4on my  Miss K Kiss-o-Meter scale.

To pay them a visit, take note of the following:

  • They are open: Mon to Fri 7:00 – 15:00 & Sat: 8:30 – 13:00
  • You’ll find them here:  Shop No.2, Touchstone House, 7 – 11 Bree street Cape Town
  • And you can contact them on:  021 418 1770 or info@ravishfoods.co.za

To the Ravish team I’m going to say – thanks for ravishing me guys!  I’ll be back for that bunless burger for sure.

xxx
