Highly recommended: Burn the Floor (currently showing at the Baxter)

by Karisa

Last week I was lucky enough to attend the opening night performance of Burn The Floor: Fire in the Ballroom which is currently showing at the Baxter Theatre.

Now I don’t know about you guys, but I freakin’ love dance… In fact one of my favourite TV shows to obsess about is “So You Think You Can Dance”, so I just knew this was going to be right up my alley.

My date on the other hand was a big Afrikaans dude who only loves to sokkie.  So I wasn’t sure how this was going to pan out to be honest… But the show’s so bloody captivating, he actually wanted to take up salsa lessons afterwards. 🙂

The cast consists of championship ballroom & Latin American dancers from all around the world, including top South African performers Kylee Brown and Johannes Radebe (from SA’s Strictly Come Dancing).

The dancing is complemented by amazing singing talent – like the kind of stuff that’ll give you goose bumps – and overall it’s top class entertainment that’ll leave a big smile on your face (that’s unless you hate dance and music of course – but seriously, why would anyone??).

I like their official summary of the show, because I think it’s a very accurate description of what to expect:

BURN THE FLOOR is the ultimate high-voltage theatrical dance experience exploding with jaw-dropping choreography, heart-pounding music and breath-taking moves.

Still not sold?  Then have a look at this little teaser for the show (the music they’ve chosen as background music to this clip isn’t the best – look past that):

Or perhaps a closer look at the sexy cast will seal the deal?

Hello you beautiful people…

The show is still running until Sun, 5 Jun (before it moves to Durban).  Ticket prices range from R190 to R310 and are available via Computicket over here.

I highly recommend that you try snap up some tickets… This show will definitely have you trying out your own moves back in your lounge or dining room, that I guarantee you.
