So the old Assembly space in Harrington Street has been given a new lease on life thanks to a collaboration between surf legends, Twiggy Baker and Jordy Smith, Guy Wood (who opened one of Durban’s Longest Running café Bars – Bean Bag Bohemia) and restaurateur Reg Macdonald (you’ll know Reg from Aces ‘n Spades, The Village Idiot & Villains Ale house)… 3 all-new spaces have emerged: Harringtons (the focus of this post), SurfaRosa (a cool little neighbourhood bar) & District (an events venue and nightclub).
I attended the launch of Harringtons a few weeks back and got to experience all the lavishness that now fills the previous upstairs area of Assembly. Positioned as an upscale cocktail lounge & bar, the vibe is all about polished dark wood, velvet, velvet & more velvet, marble & gold touches, and a seriously sexy bar.
Over and above any drink your heart could desire, Harringtons also has a food offering (created by Chef Sheldon Raju) and a boutique DJ set every evening for what they refer to as “late evening revelry”. Smokers can also hang out on their smoking patio, keeping us non-smokers happily smoke free inside. 😉
My photos came out too dark, so decided to use the pro shots from the evening instead. So let’s have a look around, shall we? First up, some decor shots:
And now for some people shots…

That’s me in the corner… that’s me in the spotlight… jokes, but now you’ve got that song in your head too, ha!
Harringtons is open Wednesday to Saturday, 4pm onward and you’ll find them upstairs at 61B Harrington Street, CBD, Cape Town.
