Ballet lovers – don’t miss Swan Lake currently showing at the Artscape

by Karisa

On Friday evening I attended the opening night of Swan Lake which is currently showing at the Artscape Theatre until 18 June 2017.

Danced by the incredible dancers from the Cape Town City Ballet and accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, this ballet production tells the classic story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer…

The set changes & costumes are beautiful and if you’re a true romantic at heart, you’ll of course love the story of the prince who falls in love with a swan, almost gets duped by the evil black swan, but eventually saves the white swan and turns her back into a princess.

The production features different dancer pairings on different evenings.  The first pairing features Laura Bosenberg as the White Swan (Odette), Burnise Silvius and Marietta Opperman who share the role of the Black Swan (Odile) and Thomas Thorne as Prince Siegfried.

The second pairing features Claire Spector as Odette, Kirstel Jensen as Odile and Daniel Szybkowski as the Prince.  And the last pairing features Hannah Ward as Odette, Leanè Theunissen as Odile and Conrad Nusser as the Prince.

Tickets cost from R120 – R300 pp and can be purchased through Artscape Dail-a-seat on 021 421 7695 or via Computicket over here.

Performance times are as follows:

  • Fri 7.30pm | Sat 2pm & 7.30pm | Sun 3pm

And the venue is: Artscape Opera House, D.F. Malan St, Cape Town

Ballet lovers will not be disappointed…
