Last week I joined Come Wine With Us for yet another one of their fun food & wine pairing evenings.
This one was in partnership with Nederburg and their The Winemasters Collection range of wines along with beautiful food prepared by the team from Haas Collective in Buitenkant Street.
The theme for the evening was #TastesandTextures along with a “Warm and Textured” dress code, which was perfect for the stormy Cape Town weather we were experiencing.
The agenda for the evening contained a bit of a twist. Normally we sit back & relax while food & wine experts pair the perfect wines to each dish. But for this specially created tapas menu, we were not only tasked with doing our own wine & food pairing selections, but we had the extra challenging (but also very interesting) task of also pairing each dish with the perfect fabric, the perfect scent (from a selection of scent jars), and to test whether our selected wine tasted different when served in glass vs ceramic (with beautiful ceramic cups provided by the folks at Rialheim).
At first, this pairing challenge was a very daunting undertaking… I mean, you certainly don’t want to look like you have no bloody clue what you’re doing, right? But as soon as we all got stuck in it was actually really cool to see everyone’s differing preferences and pairings, showing that there really wasn’t a wrong or a right, it all came down to our senses and how they interpreted the different tastes & textures…
Enjoying a little catch-up with CWWU owner (and general awesome chick), Sybil Doms… PS. Still loving that new hair of mine! (if you missed it, read all about my hair makeover over here)
