I recently enjoyed a beautiful, leisurely lunch at a cute little Camps Bay spot called La Belle Bistro & Bakery.
They actually also have a 2nd branch at The Alphen Boutique Hotel in Constantia, but I opted for a sea view as it was a lovely sunny day and I wanted to maximise that opportunity (of course).
The space is open, flowing from inside seating to outdoor seating, which means views, views, and more views. I also really liked the decor which is light & pretty with lots of beautiful wooden touches.
As you can see it’s definitely not a bad way to spend a sunny Saturday…
Right, now on to the food. My dining partner-in-crime, Melain, was open to sharing (which I love), so we decided to get items that both of us had our eye on and then do a swap out mid way. For starters we tried the Truffle Roast Beef – Shallot balsamic vinaigrette, caramelized shallots & truffle aioli (R95):
And the Crispy Chicken – Buttermilk chicken, cabbage celery slaw & spicy aioli (75):
I have to say, we really enjoyed both dishes. Very different of course, but both had beautiful flavour and both Melain and I agreed that we’d happily order these again.
For mains we tried the Quinoa Crusted Fish & Chips – Hake, cottage cheese tartar & sweet potato fries (R130):
And then the Porcini Butter Fillet – Porcini compound butter, roast chipollini onions, baby button mushrooms & potato puree (R205):
The fish was perfectly cooked & those sweet potato fries were great, the quinoa batter just felt slightly too thick. I’d be interested to try one of their grilled fish items instead… BUT THAT FILLET… oh my goodness, I almost didn’t want to pass Melain her half & was very close to fighting her to the death to have it all. 😉
Luckily, me not having it all meant that we could still squeeze in a little something sweet. You can either order from their wickedly tempting cake display:
Or you can order from the dessert menu. We opted to try one of their shortbread and salted caramel fingers (R35) & also their crème brûlée (R55):

The crème brûlée is beautifully light – so a great choice to end things off without putting too much strain on your body…

If you too want to pay them a visit, have a look at their full lunch & dinner menu over here, then give them a call on 021 437 1278 or drop them an email at info@labellecb.co.za. (walk-ins are of course also welcome)
You’ll find La Belle Bistro & Bakery here: 201 The Promenade, Victoria Road, Camps Bay
And their opening hours are: Monday to Sunday, 8am to 11pm
